Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law BA+LLB Review By Bhargavi Ulhas Varik

I study B.A.LL.B course in Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law and it is situated in Margao, South Goa. It was recently declared to be one of the top 10 law colleges in India. My overall experience in this college is positive yet coupled with hardships, highs and lows. The college has strict rules and discipline oriented atmosphere. The college campus is situated amidst the lush green environment. Being the only center for law education in South Goa it is the center of attraction for the most part. The institution has contributed to the legal development in the academic sphere for over many decades. The college is well connected and has ties with several leading lawyers and provides a competitive legal environment.

The college provides Various courses i.e, B.A.LL.B, LL.B, LLM, Ph.D, etc. The students having cleared HSSC and graduation can opt for B.A.LL.B and LL.B courses respectively by answering a common entrance test conducted by the college with the aid of Goa University. The college has academic oriented perspective along with focus on extracurricular activities like moot court, ADR, Negotiation competitions, etc. The courses provided by the college help in the overall development of the student providing for a strong legal education backed with legal professionalism and morals, ethics and values. The student gets to experience college life. The college also organises competitions like moot court, law festivals, legal aid camps, etc. As part of the legal education students get to visit the jails, courts, etc. The fees are moderate. There are 2 semesters every year with B.A.LL.B students having internal exams along with the semester. There are total of 5 subjects in each semester and practical papers in the final year. There are strict attendance rules. The college also organises prize distribution ceremony to praise the hardworking students. The college has facilities to provide financial aid through scholarships to the needy students. The college also has a good sports background and participates as well as organises various sports competitions and thus tries to bring about the overall development of a student. Moreover a student is required to do an internship to get real life experiences of the court room.

The college faculty is very knowledgeable, helpful and supportive. There are quite a few experienced professors along with few lecture based teachers. The faculty is not only helpful but also available to help and aid a student in academics along with other competition like moot court. The Faculty does make use of the recent technology while teaching that helps us to understand the topics with ease.

The college does have a placement cell but currently it is not functioning. However it does make recommendations to students and help them provide for internships at times.

The college does not have any hostel facilities.

The college infrastructure is pretty good. Over the years it has changed vastly with the new building coming up. Although it is not a humongous college but it does have pretty good infrastructure and facilities. The college is a 5 storey building with availability of lift for easy access to all the floors. The classrooms are spacious and equipped with projectors, speakers and good ventilation. There is a moot court hall which is amongst one of the best moot court halls of India. The college however shares a common ground for sports with a school and another college. The college also has a very resourceful library. There are washrooms on each floor which are clean and well maintained. The college does maintain a good sanitation.

The college does not have a huge campus but the existing campus is well maintained. The college always strives at providing for a good and better legal education and services to the students and masses. The college organizes various competitions and celebrates various days of national importance. The college makes it a necessity for student to participate in legal aid and help in creating awareness and making a public change. The students get a competitive atmosphere. The college also organizes national and international competitions like climate control crisis competitions. The college even organizes funfest for students along with various extracurricular activities to develop the overall personality of student. The overall experience in the college is pretty nice but at times it can get a little difficult to cope up with the rules and disciplinary nature of the college.
