Life of B.Tech student in University of Kalyani

Overall Rating
University of Kalyani is one of the oldest universities in West Bengal. For engineering studies the university has one particular department, DETS (Department of Engineering and Technological Studies).For choosing government colleges by WBJEE, it may be a good option. Placement record is not good. So if you are getting chance in national institutes you should go for that, but compared to other new West Bengal government engineering colleges, it is good with its autonomous system.
 

Academics Rating
The curriculum is mainly GATE oriented. To get admission in this college you need to qualify WBJEE exam with rank less than 5000 for general category. We have four streams including CSE, IT, ECE, and EIE. We have both practical and theoretical classes after that you have lots of time to prepare for competitive exams or placements.
 

Faculty Rating
We have some highly qualified professors with Ph.D from recognised universities but many of our professors are from guest faculties. The class sessions are very long, 2 hours continuously which is very monotonous. Practical classes are also for 2 hours. However our professor's teaching style is really very good. Computer aided visuals and board works both are done according to the topic.
 

Placement Rating
We don't have any active placement cell. Students go for off campus opportunities or prepare for competitive exams.
 

Hostel Rating
We have 9 hostels for our whole university. There are 3 girl’s hostels (2 for UG and PG, 1 is for Ph.D students) and 6 boy’s hostel. Hostel facilities are good with cheap rent but not all students opted for hostel.
 

Infrastructure Rating
We have our distinguish department with lecture halls, practical rooms and computer labs also. We have one central library enriched with books, journals, and study area with air conditioner. We have one health center for university students and employees. We also have an auditorium (APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium) with seating capacity of more than 500.
 

Campus Rating
We have sports facilities like badminton, cricket, football, and volleyball ground. Hostels also have their own grounds to play. We also have a Gym and swimming pool. We don't have so called clubs but we learn and showcase our cultural talent during different events like Teachers Day under guidance of seniors. Particularly in our department, we organise Reunion fest named Prayukti yearly. We also organise freshers and farewell.
