My Experience in IIT Kanpur

Overall Rating
My overall experience was good, but what I expected before coming into IIT did not happen as it was an entirely different experience. I want to tell you that whenever you come in, enter without any expectations, with a neutral mindset. I chose this college mainly based on my JEE Advanced rank. If your rank is good, you can easily get a good branch in this college.
 

Academics Rating
I’m in the department of Civil Engineering. The placement stats of this department are 75% of students placed easily, but the 2024 placement stats was not good. However, one student from Civil Engineering was placed in Google. To enter this course, you have to qualify for JEE Mains and Advanced and get a good rank to get into the college. In the end, the motive is to get a good job. If you want to further pursue this degree, then you can easily go for a dual degree.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty members have mostly completed their Ph.Ds from a foreign university while others are graduates from IIT Kanpur itself. Their teaching style is very simple, from basic to advanced. Some faculties show real-life experiments and demonstrations so that students can understand concepts easily. But exceptions are always there, some faculties can be rude.
 

Placement Rating
Placements of IIT Kanpur are one of the best things of this university. In 2022, the highest package was 4.25 Cr, which is the highest in all IITs of India. However, in the 2023-24 session, the placements were not so good because of the recession and skill gap caused by online studying.
 

Hostel Rating
The hostel is good. The rooms we got in our 1st year were very good. But after the first year, the rooms allotted to us were not up to the mark. Facilities given to us were only a bed without a mattress, 2 chairs, one table, and a fan.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The academic blocks are one of the best things of the infrastructure. Most departments have their own respective building. You can find Wi-Fi connections and cameras all over the IIT campus. If you are new in the academic area, then you can get lost in the corridors of the academic area, because of how big it is.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is very good at IIT Kanpur because it is vast, 1055 acres. The grounds, fests, clubs, airstrip, and other extracurricular activities are the best things about the campus life. There are many clubs like Pclub, Eclub, film club, photography club, dance club, cricket team, football team, swimming team, hockey team and others. There are so many things that you can do according to your hobbies. You can learn a lot from your seniors as they are very helpful.
