SCMS School of Engineering and Technology B.Tech Review By Alvin Joy

First of all, this college focuses more on academics. So don't expect much enjoyment. The core is focused to mould your career, which is excellently done by the management and faculties. Though I didn’t want to join here in the beginning, I gradually loved going to this college. My core ambition was to capture a computer based job. I did some research for private colleges, which gradually led me to SCMS. Initially, I faced hard times. But when I made some new friends and started enjoying my course, I had a good time. I would recommend this college to those who have a clear vision about their future, those who need to invest most of their college life in learning and growing.

I am doing my Bachelors in Computer Science. I’m not a merit admitted student, I entered here via management. For management, the requirement is to pass the KEAM exam and score good marks in 12th. The other requirement is the fees, which is the major problem for all of us. In management the fees gets higher as compared to a merit admitted student. I enrolled in this programme as Computer Science is my passion. It's my dream to work in a big tech company.

The faculties are knowledgeable and well qualified. Most of them have achieved their Ph.D and doctorate. All of them are well organized and dedicated. In my first year I had 11 faculties, each one of them were special to me. They are so loving and care about us in every situation. They not only teach modules, but also life principles we need to follow throughout our life. They always teach in a happy mood and are very supportive.

SCMS is having a good placement cell. Many students have achieved jobs here with good packages. I can say that the faculties play a major rule in this field. From the very first year to the last year, they keep on preparing us for the placement interviews. Many demo interviews will be conducted and each mistake we made is corrected. Students are benefitted by this.

I am not a hosteller, but my friends who used to stay in the hostel say it’s good, entertaining and enjoyable. If you are not having a good college life in the campus, you will get that from staying in the hostel. You can make more friends there and create great bonds. Group studies help you to study more. So hostel plays a crucial role of socialising in college.

It's amazing; my main attention when entering this campus was its infrastructure. It's very neat, clean and having greenery everywhere. It's an eco-friendly and ragging-free campus. It brings very calm, quiet and peaceful vibes. There are parking facilities for both cars and bikes. There is a library for students to study and read books. All types of books are available there. The canteen in the campus provides food at reasonable prices. There are 3 academic buildings and a few labs.

As I mentioned earlier, it's a professional and education based college, so fests and programs hardly occur here. I do miss attending fests or events as it would bring colour to the campus. The clubs are very active here like NSS, IEEE and the tinker hub etc. There is a music session on every Thursday which is very entertaining. Many hackathons happen which will help in promoting ourselves and fill us with more confidence.
