Kolkata has many great college options for Bcom, but Goenka college is definitely the best out of all of them. First thing, being this is a Government College so the fees is way lower than what you would expected to pay in other colleges, I chose this college for completing my degree for this very reason. The Rate Of Return is very high, for a minimum fee of hardly 4-6 thousand you get packages as high as 13 Lakh per annum, which in my opinion is absolutely great. Since, this college only takes in the best of the best students, it has quite high standards to meet with its faculties which it absolutely does.

Pursuing a B.Com degree obviously doesn't require you to go through entrance tests, but there is some cutoff set by each college, which is independent of each other, which you'll have to crack. For GCCBA the minimum cutoff on an average is 92℅ for General Students and 80℅ for Category Students. You are not required to be from the commerce stream specifically for this degree; however some colleges do prefer students who had Mathematics as one of their subjects in high school for providing Honours in B.COM. My motive behind pursuing B. Com was I wanted to learn about Economies and Businesses.

The faculty at GCCBA as I've already mentioned is of top quality. They are immensely knowledgeable and are always ready to help us out. Most of the teaching faculty is a PhD or a Master in the subject they teach, which is obviously what you would expect from a tier one college in the State. Professors tend to stick to the traditional methods of teaching using a black board but they make the classes engaging by asking questions from the previous lecture so we can correlate between what had been already taught and the ongoing lesson. Some professors also use technological aids like smart classes while teaching. Not just the teaching faculty, but also the staffs are amazing and quite friendly. They tend to look out for us and back us up in difficult situations.

Yes, we have a Placement Cell here at Goenka. The average packages that come in are around 8 LPA, the highest package last year was for 13 LPA offered by Future Group. Placement rate is around 80℅, I won't say it's 100%, since; most students tend to look out for jobs outside of campus placements. Companies such as Ernest Young, Deloitte, etc. often come for campus placements. Though, not a lot of internship opportunities are provided, and most of which do not provide stipend or asks you to pay for joining in.

There is no accommodation facility provided by the college. However, you can find PGs and hostels near the campus which are clean and provide amenities such as air conditioned rooms.

The whole academic block is a single building with one right wing. There is a paved pathway connecting the main gate to the building's entrance. There is a front yard which has a Dr. C. V. Raman memorial place for his work in Science. People usually sit there to hang out. The college has two lifts on each side, one for the faculty and one for the students. The academic building includes a library on the top floor for all sorts of material for studying. You can issue books from there for your use. It also has an air conditioned reading room which is accessible till 2 PM every day. There is one computer lab, and few smart classrooms in the building. For cultural activities there is an auditorium which can accommodate a lot of people (around 500). The college also has three common rooms out of which one is only for girls. The common rooms have indoor games like carrom and table tennis. Not just indoor games, but college also provides equipments for outdoor games like cricket, football, etc. The campus though is not very big in area but, it is still quite spacious, it even has a Nestle hub for snacking.

Campus life here in Goenka feels very welcoming; the people here are not always looking for trouble so it leaves you with a quiet and peaceful environment. Everyone is always ready to guide you and help in any way they could. There is a students' union which represents the whole student body in front of higher ups and also lookout for us. For you extracurricular, you can join a few clubs that are there. For dance there are two teams which you can join by giving audition before an event. There are even clubs for management related events. Talking of events, the college conducts two fests around the year, one annual inter college fest called The Quest where colleges from around the city are invited to participate, this is one of the most awaited events for all students, and it is conducted for three days three nights and is one of the best things you would experience. The second fest is the Socials which is the intra-college fest, often celebrity singers are invited for performance. Apart from entertainment activities, you can also join the students' union for performing social and volunteer work.
