Janki Devi Memorial College B.A Review By Bhanu Priya

The Janki Devi Memorial College is also known as the JMC among the Delhi students. It is one of the top colleges affiliated with Delhi University. The overall ranking of the college is very high because of its prominence among the top colleges under DU. The admission procedure in the bachelor's course is through the cutoff released by the DU and in the master's course is through the entrance and cut-off. College management is superb and they are very polite with everyone. I loved their behavior towards the student and they try to understand your issues. Overall, JMC is a decent college for students pursuing a bachelor's.

I have pursued my philosophy honors from Janki Devi College and the teachers never told us where exactly the classes were going on. Teachers never took the lectures as per the timetable. The eligibility for the BA in Philosophy depends on the cut-off and the category you belong to. I was from OBC so I got admission in the 9th list. No entrance exam was conducted for admission. I always loved philosophy and wanted to learn more about it so I took admission in this course and the subjects were just as I expected them to be. I loved the subjects but it was difficult to understand the lectures because professors were very old and they were unable to speak louder. My course could have helped in getting a job in the college placement run also but I wanted to pursue further studies so I did not go for placement.

I never understood the faculty at the beginning but learned about them with time. Initially, it was very difficult to settle in a college like JMC. There were different teachers for every course of Philosophy and likewise was with every other academic course. Every single faculty was very well experienced and had a quality impact on students. But most of the teachers were at the age of retirement so they were unable to teach effectively. Students used to understand by themselves or took help mostly from the library.

The management organizes the placement run for the students and every student was allowed to be a part of it. Mostly the placement companies are for the vocational courses. There were fewer placements for the students from academic courses. Different packages were offered to different students every year and maximum bagged a good amount because of their hard work.

I am a Delhi resident so I never needed a hostel room, but the college has one hostel which is excellent as much as I know about it. Girls love to be there and maximum girls from other states had to find accommodation in PGs or flats. The food and quality of living are good in the hostel and security is also good. The hostel is situated within walking distance of the college.

JMC is a huge college with a big campus and all the facilities in the college venue. It has a very well-furnished library and I loved to be there for the whole day. The cafeteria is amazing and it has decent food for students with a hawker serving some spicy street-style food. Classrooms and toilets were in very bad condition during my time. The doors of the toilets were literally broken and classrooms did not have any doors and broken blackboards. There was medical and emergency support for the students. The exterior of the college is well furnished and maintained and it has all the other necessary laboratories and an auditorium for the students.

I had an amazing life there even after not getting much to learn from the teachers but I asked them doubts later and they never said no. There are clubs, competitions, activities going on all through the year for students. Fests and celebrations are very common in the JMC. This college is a girl's college and any girl will live the best years of life here.
