We live in an era where smart cities are given importance. I don’t know about the smart city but in terms of University, Graphic Era University is one of the smartest. The way it has been built and the approach with which the studies are conducted here, GEU needs a special mention. Graphic Era is one of the leading universities in terms of providing quality education and is also ranked among the top management school in the state. Graphic Era has outshone many colleges and the students coming from all across the country is a proof of that. I will discuss the points that prove why the university is ranked among the leading universities of the country. The university has a strong connection with some of the top companies that happily come to the campus and hires the students of various streams. While studying here, we got the opportunity of interacting with many local and national industry leaders as they come time and again for guest lectures here. At the school of management of the university the students are made to build the competencies and skills required in being entrepreneurs.

The academic program of the management school doesn’t only make us learn the current business trends but also gives us an insight of future. Modern teaching aid combined with contemporary teaching method was hard to understand initially as coming from a background that had nothing do with management studies, it was tough to understand various things. All that though never came in my way because the studies were done smoothly here and we were given proper mediums of practicals to understand the concepts. Both skill-based and knowledge based pedagogies were enabled to make sure we are ready to work in the industry once we leave the college.

GEU School of Management has a team of faculty that has global experience and possesses degrees from not just top Indian universities but also from some of the best global B-Schools. The faculties were specialized in their subjects and any doubts they would be ready to solve it upfront. The faculty which has been an issue with me in past was sorted here as I made friends with most of them and is still in touch with them. In student’s success the faculty see their own success and that is what makes the camaraderie between the teachers and the students strong.

The companies that came here were all listed companies. Being a management student we were supposed to know the companies that they are associated with but trust me it was only after I did MBA from here, I knew that this company belongs to this sector. FMCG was the major sector and companies like HUL, Nestle, Emami, and Patanjali hired the students in whom they saw capability. Merit of the students was decided by the companies as we were groomed well to crack the interview but the final call was made by the companies. Graphic Era placement ratio of 80% and average salary in range of 7-8 lakhs looked little less initially but was happy with what was offered. Placements were not outstanding but no less by any means.

Over 10 hostels inside the campus and students of all the seven colleges stay in the same hostels. The boys area hostel was in east while the girls hostels were built in the western part of the campus. There was an electronic map at the campus and for students who fail to search hostel, can go there and find it. University was quite big and hostels were located at different locations so that made it tough to figure out. Each wing has its own dining area and the quality of food was never compromised. The mess used the best oils and vegetables for cooking. All in all, the hostel facilities were better than many of the universities in Uttarakhand.

The classrooms were superb as the management school had completely different classrooms. I went to other colleges and pitied them because we had the best classrooms among the colleges of the university. Management college had a library in their backyard but was open for all. The greenery was impeccable as right to the college there was army cantonment area. Hence even though we had security inside the campus, one would feel safer outside the campus. There are 4 canteens in all and one can get any dish in India available at those canteens. How can I forget the sports ground? Due to cold weather that Dehradun experiences most of the year, the grounds required minimum maintenance and that is why one will always find them conditioned to play any sort of sports.

Management students were mostly occupied with their own stuff. The campus had a lot to offer that I almost forgot the outer world for almost 2 years. This was an addiction that all the management students of the university had with the college. The gardens of the college are where I have spent the maximum time with my friends and those were certainly the best days of my life.
