Miranda House College B.Sc Review By Maridula Ehsan

Coming from Bangalore, it was difficult to adjust in Delhi that has an entirely different atmosphere. Delhi University was a dream, and as promised by my parents, if I top at HSC exams, they will send me to DU. I kept my promise, and my parents just had one condition laid in front of me, and that was that I could only join a girl's college. I had 3 choices to make from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Jesus and Mary College, and Miranda House. After marginally missing out on Lady Shri Ram's College, I decided to get admissions at the second-best, which was Mirana College. As a proud Mirandian, I have a lot of positives to talk about. I passed from Miranda House in 2014 and still feel like it was yesterday. My love for college was such that I once decided to have a Mirandian tattoo on my wrist, but my parents had reservations about such things. It was Miranda that make me comfortable in a society where there were all North Indians. I would thank Miranda for making me the confident girl that I am today and shaping my academics like never before. The college's societies are enriching as they were open for all, and being a south Indian girl, I was given some special treatment. The college's discipline did remind me of my school life but was not curbing at all.

The education at DU is liberating, and India being a progressive nation, we learned a lot from a normal just being normal B.Sc students. The subjects and the syllabus were the same as most of the universities, but what makes Delhi University the best is its teachers. You will find one of the best faculty here who has something new in store for us always. Their teaching style and covering the syllabus with ease is what made the college ranked number 1 in NIRF rankings.

I have given a gist on them in the last part, but their helpful nature is what made me love them. They were warm and treated everyone equally. There was no discrimination related to caste or color, which was the most amazing thing about them. They never hurried the syllabus, and even if they knew they were behind the 8th ball, they would make us feel comfortable at the campus after the college ended and take extra classes then.

The placement and training cell worked amazingly as even in a challenging situation where the elections were about to happen, the college managed to bring many companies at its doors. MNCs like Motherson Sumi, Cognizant, Redington India, and Westlife Development were some of the major companies that came to recruit students from Miranda House. The placement was not 100% but still kind enough, and if the company that wished to hire me offered me a job in Bangalore, I would have taken that immediately.

Miranda House was a house turned into a college, and that is why the name is still Miranda house. The hostel block was excellent, and the hostel gate opens at the opposite end of the college. The hostel gate takes us directly to the Chattra Marg, and the Vishwavidyalaya metro station was just at 500m from the hostel. The red brick buildings of the hostel were a sighter that can't be ignored and what's better was the palm trees lined road that took us to the hostel. The rooms were fully furnished, and it was a privilege to stay at the Miranda House hostel. The seats are few, and they are allotted as per departments. For example, B.Sc (Chemistry) only had four seats, and one has to be a top student to get admission there because, just like the college, the hostel too has a cut-off list.

The old building has been preserved, but the newly added quadrangle building with modern classrooms is where the classes take place now. The college campus is one of the most gorgeous that I have ever seen. The Palm trees relationship with Miranda House seems to be from ages as the Palm trees are everywhere. The campus is not so big but has all the facilities from an outdoor sports ground to lawns. There are some raw roads, and peacocks can often be seen inside the campus. There are indoor sports room and an air-conditioned library with a decent study room. There are 2 canteens, including a Nescafe Bar, inside the campus.

Miranda College gave me almost everything. The college societies were interesting and, most importantly, were quite active. The professors of the college let the students live on their own. Events kept running throughout the year, and in a one sentence, Miranda was a great combo of excellent education mixed with pleasant co-curricular activities. Being a Mirandian will also help you get extra perks when you walk out. From my experience, from a shy girl who has spent 14 years in an all-girls school, coming to Miranda house has made me an opinionated and strong-willed girl.
