Punjab Engineering College B.Tech Review By Navneet Kumar

I am currently pursuing my B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Punjab Engineering College which is located in sector 12 Chandigarh. It has well connectivity is just 20 min distance from Chandigarh railway station. Chandigarh is quiet famous for its transportation arrangement and the planning of roads with its strict traffic rules and various ongoing projects at the outskirts which help us in obtaining practical knowledge of Civil Engineering. This was my main reason to study civil engineering from PEC.

PEC has different options to offer such as B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D in various fields. For B.Tech, it offers Mechanical, metallurgy, production, civil, electrical, electronics and communication, and aerospace engineering. It accepts admission through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Students are also admitted through Sports Quota. One who wants to get a good hands-on experience with the different engineering disciplines must choose PEC.

As I've enrolled in Civil Engineering therefore, based on my experience all of the faculty members know what they are teaching. They are well qualified instructors and their teaching methodologies are very good. The thing I love about the faculties here is that at the starting of each semester they let you know about what we are going to study throughout the semester which is useful for each and every student.

Yes, we have placement cell in our college named CDGC which stands for Career Development and Guidance Cell. It helps students to get placements. It conducts expert lecture of various industry experts who give insights on how they cracked their interviews.

Yes, we have residential facilities at our college. We have hostels for first year students which are away from the senior students. 1st year hostels have 3 blocks A, B, and C. The C block is the best out of all then B and at last A block which is in worst conditions. As during heavy rainfall water leaks into your room and some windows are cracked and authority doesn’t even bother to repair. But I've heard about some renovation project for a long time but still it did take effect. There is a combined mess for all the blocks and previously mentioned mess timing may vary which is generally from 7 to 9 in the morning, 12:30 to 2 during lunch, and from 8 to 9:30 at night. Food is decent. There are separate menus for every day. In hostels common rooms are provided with proper air-conditioning and having foosball table, chess, carrom, and a TV.

Academic blocks are distributed depending upon the department and they are at walking distance from each other and from the hostels too. The structure is well furnished excluding rooms of some departments. Lecture halls have AC, black board, and a projector. There are proper facilities of drinking water, cafeteria, and washrooms.

Campus life is great here at PEC. There are lot of activities are conducted in which one can engage into. There is the facilities of swimming pool, gym, squash court, badminton court, tennis court, football ground, etc. Crowd at PEC is from good families and different parts of India like South, West, and North East India. But majority crowd is from North India. PEC has many societies and clubs including technical societies like robotics, IGS (Indian Geotechnical Society), ASCE (American Society For Civil Engineers), SME, and many more cultural clubs. Here we have PEB (Punjabi Editorial Board), HEB, EEB, etc. These clubs have their events at regular intervals and attending these events is quite interesting and enjoyable. There are clubs like music club, dramatics club, photography, design clubs, and many more. Talking about fests we have PEC fest which is one of the biggest fests of North India. It is of 3 days where different cultural and technical activities are conducted. In this fest, different institutions take part enthusiastically and various competitions also takes place like Robo Wars hosted by robotics society and spaghetti bridge making contest by IGS, and many fun events. A DJ night is also organised.
