MMMUT was a government college that turned university in 2013. I was from the first batch of the university and must say that it is one of the best colleges to hone and groom skills. Like every other student, I did my best and even took a year's drop to prepare for IITs and NITs. After missing on all, I decided to stay at my hometown, and my score was enough to get admission in Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology. The college holds an excellent reputation, and I have no problems or regrets in joining one of the best emerging universities in the state. Faculties are highly qualified, and the syllabus was also different from other universities. Gorakhpur is a small town but has the largest railway stations in India, and it's not just because it's a neighboring city to Nepal but because many good schools and colleges have come up in the city. State from across the state has started filling in, and I am sure one day, students from cross borders and other states will also start filling up once the university becomes pro.

MMMUT has today become a national brand. In 2019, Microsoft and DE Shaw turned up for recruitment and took students with packages over 10 LPA. They have set up a project lab at the university, and students are given lessons by experts from their experts. In our time, all these things were on paper but are implemented now. The semesters were scheduled tightly and hardly any holidays in-between. The preparation holidays were also used for taking some extra practicals and giving visits to IITs and NITs. We were assigned research papers and seminars, workshops were organized to encourage us to take all the research papers seriously.

I will give them 8 on 10. I don't want to keep anyone in the dark as some of the faculty were gems while some who were relatively new were roped in from metro cities taught more on how to be civilized rather than syllabus. The coding classes by the faculty has been turned into a culture, and the college of late has produced some of the finest coders that are serving in international organizations like Microsoft. The faculty has played their part well as they see student's success in them and have made the students skilled to stay away from vanilla jobs offered by Wipro and TCS.

In 2017, which was the first passing batch of the institute, the vanilla jobs were offered. The faculty whom we sought advice from asked us to stay away from such jobs because that will only make is stereotypes. Still, MMMUT Placements did well for the ones who were desperate for placements to make sure that maximum students get placed. The companies like Wipro, TCS, Tech Mahindra, who are working closely with the government to turn UP into an IT hub, took many students from the college and sent them to the south for training. A student from our batch today is working in TCS (UK) division. The times are changing as more and more experts are being called upon to make students of the university the best coders, which will change the job scenario.

Being a small town, the hostel may not entice the people from the metro, but most of the students were from villages and were more than happy with the hostel facilities. In the first year, the students were allotted Raman Bhawan, which had double and triple sharing rooms. From the next year onwards, students are free to choose the hostel and rooms as one can select Bhawan Tilak, which was the premium hostel of the campus with single-seater rooms. There were 7 boys and 4 girls hostel at the university campus. MMMUT hostel buildings were in sequence, and the dining hall was common.

One small town can easily reside in MMMUT campus as it was that huge. Spread in over 350 acres and was full of greenery. After IIT Kanpur, MMMUT is the largest university in the state. You can nod your head in any direction inside the campus, and the sight you will see would be green. The fountainhead at the entrance and the trees surrounded it made the campus environment more conducive for the engineering students. The college is 7-8 kilometers from the central city, and the authorities are adamant that day scholars should use the bus services. AIIMS was nearby, and the university has tie-up with that for taking medical care of the university students. A lot of interns at AIIMS are found practicing at the university clinic. A small hut-designed canteen was operational, and besides that, there was a milk parlour. Construction for a new canteen was on, and maybe it would have been done by now. The university campus has a post office and a full-fledged branch of SBI.

Life at MMMUT was no less than one enjoys in metro cities. The university has started various societies with the help of the ex-alumnus of the college. All these societies are active, and students are asked to get engaged to better both communication and technical skills. In our time, it was relatively new, but with times passing by, students participation will make these clubs more powerful.
