Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law BA+LLB Review By Devanshu Mehra

It is just one year until I graduate from my 5 year B.A.LL.B (Hons.) course from RGNUL and all I can say is that RGNUL has everything. From a campus which perplexes you from its beauty, and the exposure which you can find nowhere else. Rajiv Gandhi Law University has various research centers which help in overall growth of a law student and organizes various guest lectures from the veterans of the field. It is ranked in the top 10 NLUs of the country and is known for its amazing campus filled with greenery, and its rigorous mooting culture. To get admitted in Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Patiala, one needs to appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) which is organized by the Consortium of NLUs once every year. The administration of the college is very friendly, though it sometimes delays in its workings. The college has also got its new Vice- Chancellor just a few months back.

I am currently enrolled in the B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Which is a 5 year course that deals with Bachelors in Arts as well as Bachelors in Law. As mentioned earlier, one has to clear the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for which the eligibility is to have at least 45% marks in Senior Secondary for general students, and 40% in case of SC and ST students. B.A.LL.B. is a beneficial programme as it covers a huge syllabus as also cuts short the time from 6 years of normal LL.B. to 5 years. The subjects of this course are absolutely like one's expectations from a law course are. The course deals with the important laws in the country like family law, constitutional law, IPC, CPC, etc. This course, combined with regular studies and internships can help a student get a job of his/her own choice.

The faculty of RGNUL is highly qualified. There are 34 professors and Assistant professors in the entire college out of which, everyone teaches the students at some or the other time during the whole phase of the course depending upon the specialization that a particular student opts for. As mentioned, the faculty is highly qualified and most of the members are either Ph.D. scholars, or are pursuing the same. Every member of the faculty is extremely helpful and they teach with utmost dedication as well. Since Law is something that can be inculcated by oneself, more than being taught, that is why it is also up to the student as to how he or she uses the master faculty.

RGNUL Placement is something where it is improving yet and there is a lot of scope, honestly. The placement cell of the college is a bit new and that is why not many companies recruit employees via campus placement. The highest package is around 8-9 Lacs per annum and the average lies around 3.5-4.5 Lacs. But, even after this, various students of RGNUL pursue judiciary or litigation and are very successful in the run of their life.

One thing that absolutely stands out when it comes to RGNUL in comparison to other NLUs is the lavish hostel it has. All the rooms of RGNUL hostel are completely air conditioned and the rooms are spacious and clean. There are separate hostels for boys and girls and they are separated by the teachers' quarters. The total hostel fees is 30,000 INR, excluding the 20,000 INR refundable deposits. The food in the mess is also tasty and above par and there is a canteen and a cafeteria which is accessible for the students. The security in the college is also very good because of it being a residential university and one can genuinely feel safe inside the campus.

The residential university of RGNUL is spread across 50 acres. There are several buildings inside the campus like the hostels, the academic block, the auditorium, etc. All the classrooms, the library and the auditorium are air conditioned and technologically advance. The campus is extremely clean and green. There is a huge playground, a basketball court, and a gymnasium. There is equipment of almost every sport and there is a canteen and a cafeteria too. There is a medical team also which helps in case of emergencies.

The campus life at RGNUL is tremendous. You meet people from all walks of life and the exposure is unbelievable. The campus is clean beyond belief and the activities at college are also interesting. There are various debate competitions and Moot court competitions organized, in addition to the sports activities. There is an annual sports fest named "Zelus" too. The learning at the college is worthwhile and it is indeed an experience of a lifetime.
