The college has a unique formula of calculating percentage as they take the combined score of English and the rest 3 main subjects for admissions. Thus, it would be best to have an aggregate of 90% or more in the best four subjects to get admission here. It can become tricky, but if you are good in the core subjects of accountancy, it won't matter as that is all that matters for getting a berth here. The college is one of the best when it comes to studying commerce. A group known for education not just in Kolkata but across the country has come up with a state-of-the-art college in the city from which they have taken their legacy forward. As a student, we had to be careful about maintaining attendance to carrying I-card on the campus. The college has ranked among the top 25 commerce college in the country. The college fees and all are also not so high, and they are also up for scholarships for the students who have done well academically throughout but can't afford the fees.

The college is affiliated with Calcutta University, and they have introduced the semester system for B.Com (Hons). Classes start early in the morning, and that urged me to be a morning person which I was not. The high-tech classrooms gave learning a whole new experience as not many colleges have started using the technology in the classrooms, but Goenka is always ahead when it comes to technology.

The faculty are outstanding as they were strict academically but encouraged students to be active socially. The faculty are a part of many social organizations, and students are asked to have a shot it at. Every noble deed done for such causes is noticed, which will help you be in the good books of the faculty. The faculty made sure that we are prepared for the exams and therefore surprise tests from their end during the last month of the semester can come up at any point in time. Thus, one should be done with the syllabus well in advance.

Placements were not that great, but college somehow managed to bring some companies who needed some low-profile people for their odd jobs. The Big-4 have made their presence felt in large parts of Kolkata, and they were the ones who showed maximum interest in students of the college. Everyone was asked to have a try, and 50% of us even had the opportunity to start our career with KPMG, Deloitte, or E&Y careers. The average placement offered was in the range of 3-4 lakhs, and given the job scenario in Kolkata, it wasn't bad at all.

Some students come from different cities of the states and some even from other parts of India every year. The college doesn't have a hostel in its own premises, but Goenka college has a quota of seats at the Eden Hindu Hostel for boys. The college is located on College Square, and there are n numbers of PG in this area. Therefore, students can easily find affordable boarding and lodging in the area close to college proximity.

Goenka College is not that big but the college building has all the facilities that a college in general has. The classrooms are good and the benches and all were all lately installed. College library was big and the reading rooms were available for students till 5 pm on weekdays. The academic building also has common rooms for boys and girls. The college has an excellent canteen, and one must try Lucchi Puri at the college canteen. The college building has multiple seminar halls and a world-class gymnasium. The college doesn't have its own sporting facility but the University ground close to the college was where students of our college used to practice and play sports like football and cricket. The college has done well at the inter-university sports competition, and students who enjoy playing sports can enroll for the same at the sports room on the second floor of the building.

Life at the college was quite good as academics and sports and social awareness are imparted in every student of the college. It is not over yet, as the college fest of Goenka is awesome. The college's dramatic society has made sure that students develop some acting skills and some of the finest Bengali film actors like Uttam Kumar, and Abir Chatterjee got noticed by performing at the college fest. Abir Chatterjee can be seen as a guest during the fests as he believes that college has produced some of the finest actors in the past and will continue to do so. The college has also appointed trainers at the gym and coaches for the sports. The college believes in producing the best talent, be it in academics or other fields. One can interact with the best faculty and have some tips from the best college-level coaches at Goenka. The college location is incredible, and there are many places nearby to hang out with friends as the college gets over by noon.
