I joined this campus in 2021 to become a marine engineer. It was suggested by a lot of industry professionals. This is one of the oldest Maritime training institutions with the campus situated at Taratala, Kolkata with a wide range of 33 acre campus with the latest infrastructure. Apart from the modern infrastructure, the college is equipped with Laboratories with latest infrastructure, Well maintained Classrooms, Library with more than 16000+ books and a well known Workshop for the budding engineers to gain hands on experience with the latest machineries and equipment.

Overall, B.Tech in Marine Engineering is a four year course which covers a wide range of subjects required for a marine engineer. The entry to any IMU affiliated institution is through IMUCET exam which is a common entrance test for all Merchant Navy aspirants. Eligibility of the exam is 60% in PCM in class 12 and 50% in English. There are many courses like B.Tech in Marine Engineering, BSC in Nautical Science, Diploma in Nautical Science, B.Tech in Naval Architecture and others. There are 270 seats for B.Tech in Marine Engineering in IMU Kolkata.

There are several highly educated and experienced faculties in IMU Kolkata campus. There are permanent faculties and visiting faculties including the ones who come to campus as visiting faculties after becoming chief engineers with great practical knowledge in their respective fields. Cadets can assess the experienced faculties about their voyage experiences and technical aspects. All of them will be highly educated and mostly IIT Graduates.

The placement records of the campus are exceptional. Currently, it has almost 90% placement record at minimum where the other cadets pursue higher education or go for UPSA, NDA or other fields. The cadets are trained well before the interview process. First, there will be a computer based tests and then the actual interview by the company representatives. Major Shipping companies like Chevron, Torm, Thome, Wallam Shipping, NYK Ship Management, Wilhelmsen Ship Management, Fleet Management ltd, MSC, Synergy, Chellaram Shipping, Indian Registrar of shipping, Dynagas Tankers and many other great companies are coming to Indian Maritime University Kolkata Campus for on campus placements. The sports include Football, Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball, Hockey, Kabbadi, Badminton and others.

Yes. Hostel is present in campus and all the fees will be included in the semester fees. This is a residential campus with paramilitary training for the cadets. Cadets follow routines like physical training in the morning followed by classes, workshop and sports in the evening. Food and accommodation will be provided and are good. Wi-Fi is also provided by the college.

Indian Maritime University, located at Taratala road is spread across 33 acres. There are separate hostels for boys and girls for each batch. Wi-Fi is provided in hostels. Besides the modern infrastructure, campus provides other facilities such as Laboratories with latest equipment, one of the largest Workshops with a full size 6000 BHP Marine propulsion engine for training purposes. The campus also has a Fully equipped library with 16000+ books and other online training programmers. The campus has a fully furnished Auditorium with more than 1000 seat. There is an Olympic sized swimming pool for swimming training with instructors. It also has gyms in each hostel for the well-being of cadets. The campus also has a dispensary with 8+ beds which provides great medical facilities at any time required.

Tempest is the annual fest of IMU Kolkata and it is Asia's largest marine fest conducted. It consists of a variety of cultural, sports and technical events. There are a few of other events like lithosphere, technical paper presentation, and others which are conducted occasionally. There are several active clubs like Nature Club, Communication and Oration Club, Technical Club, Cultural Club, Arts Club, and many others to keep the cadets engaged and to build a community lifestyle within the campus. It builds the communication and other personal skills of the cadets. NCC is also present in the campus and there is separate selection procedure for that.
