The hostel experience of a marine cadet at Indian Maritime University (IMU) Kolkata is quite unique. Rank holders are made responsible for ensuring the general cleanliness and hygiene of the accommodation spaces, which encourages the cadets to take an active role in maintaining their living environment. Overall, the hostel experience at IMU Kolkata is designed to provide a comfortable, safe, and conducive living environment that supports the academic and personal growth of the marine cadets.

The academic building is good. The new academic building is very comfortable. There are average two ac in a room. Every room is under CCTV surveillance. There is a canteen. There is also a Museum, this Museum is for all successful cadets. Every room has a projector inbuilt. But there are no whiteboard, there is blackboard as usual.

Our college has best faculties. The engineering officers take classes. They share their experiences of shipping life. There are also some faculties who are not from shipping industry. They are very friendly and helpful. Some teachers come from other Indian Maritime University campuses.

Yes, we have a placement cell in campus. The administration makes a placement cell by final year cadets. There is also a placement cell in third year cadets. Each year cadets have their own placement cell. Our pass outs makes the connection between college and companies. During Covid, our college placements were little bit hampered, but now it is good. The college placement percentages are rising. Now our final year cadets are getting 85% placements.

The university has a compulsory boarding system for the entire duration of the course, and the hostel is designed to provide a comfortable and conducive living environment for the cadets. The hostel is divided into different wings, with the junior hostel separated from the rest of the accommodation. The junior hostel has an office with an attached bedroom for the hostel warden, who ensures the safety and comfort of the first-year cadets. The rooms are large, airy, and accommodate 4-6 cadets, with each "Sadan" (house) having its own common bathrooms and kit rooms fitted with lockers. The second and third-year students reside in the East and West Wings, with rooms on a triple-sharing basis. The final-year cadets are provided with individual (single occupancy) rooms. There is also a separate girls' hostel, which is a new addition to the existing infrastructure and is equipped with various amenities. The hostel experience at IMU Kolkata is not just about living arrangements; it's also about taking responsibility and being part of a community.

Our college is 75 years old. Our honorable PM Shree Jawaharlal Nehru opened this college in 1949. Our first batch passed out on 1953. So our college is too old. There were several directors in the college. But now the present director is converting our college in a proper college. But our auditorium was a failed project. I think our director will give his attention to this soon. We have 3 water plants in our college. The roads in our college are now developed. We have a café also, which will be open shortly.

Our college campus is very good. The cadets are staying here in very peaceful manner. There is no use of liquor in campus, this is very good. The warden is also helpful. The seniors help junior cadets by giving notes or whatever they want. But the quality of mess food is not so good.
