IIEST Shibpur established in 1856 is one of the oldest engineering colleges in India, boasting a rich history and located in a picturesque location near the Hooghly river and opposite to the Vidyasagar Setu. It is an institute of national importance under the central government of India. The academics and teaching faculties are quite qualified and helpful. The college has a huge campus giving off strong retro and aesthetic ambience. The placement records are also decent enough.

IIEST Shibpur provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D courses in various disciplines. The qualifying criterion is based on the rank secured in JEE Mains. 50% seats are for home state students and the other 50% seats are for students from other states in India. Reservations for SC/ST, OBC, EWS, etc. are also there as prescribed for central government institutions.

The teaching faculties are quite qualified and are indulged in various research works in their respective field. The classrooms are equipped with modern technologies and teachers take help of these resources while teaching by preparing slides, PPTs, and class modules. There is a 75% attendance criterion for appearing in the end semester exams, which is strictly followed by the teachers and exceptions are made only for valid medical reasons or some other important errands.

Yes, the college has a robust Placement Cell. They work in contact with various companies and alumni network and help the students in securing placements in their respective fields of study.

Hostel accommodation is present in the college. However, enough rooms are not present for the accommodation of all the students in the college (mainly the male students) forcing many of the students who live within a certain radius of the college to commute daily from their homes or take up PG or flats nearby the college. Anyways, the hostel accommodation is quite satisfactory with breakfast, lunch, and dinner available from the hostel mess. Each individual has a personal bed, table, and a rack. The quality of food depends on the hostel you are residing in.

Located near the Botanical Garden near the Hooghly river, the college has a huge and scenic campus, consisting of widespread greenery and a number of lakes. Academic blocks include the Main building, lecture complex, and the 7 storied science and technology building. The laboratories are well equipped with proper instruments and tools. The college has vast library (The Ramanujan Library) which has books and study material for all the courses and many more fields of study. Sports infrastructure includes 2 main grounds - The oval and The lords, volleyball and basketball courts, and a college gym. Institute Hall (the college auditorium) hosts various seminars, fests, etc.

IIEST Shibpur provides a vibrant hostel life. The campus is not crowded as such because it is spread over a huge area. Numerous co-curricular activities and sports events are organised throughout the academic year. Numerous fests are organised which include the departmental fests (Impetus by the mechanical engineering department, Sphuran by the electrical engineering department, Mettalium by the metallurgy department, etc.) organised by the individual departments and the main annual cultural fest, Rebeca are quite an attraction.
