Life at Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh

Overall Rating
I had heard that this is one of the best colleges in Chandigarh with the best crowd and faculty. I will say that the crowd and the campus life in itself is a vibe. The clubs, societies, and the festivals are amazing. I chose psychology and I definitely am satisfied with the faculty of my department, most of them are very helpful and so I honestly do not regret choosing this college. Not just academically but also for the extracurricular activities, you should go for this college if you want to study in Chandigarh especially in the humanities field.
 

Academics Rating
The admission is done without any interviews or tests. It is done on the basis of merit, the percentage of your 12th grade and it depends and may vary department to department. I want to opt for honors in psychology and that will start in the second year, the criterion for eligibility is 50% in the first year. The academic program is great so I would recommend it for sure.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty of my department is great, definitely qualified enough and I like the style of teaching. There are no specific books recommended for psychology, the students are to buy notes available in the college shop which are made and recommended by the teachers. My teacher personally has been very helpful and is very qualified with a Ph.D along with masters. She is always there to help the students with their queries.
 

Placement Rating
There is no guaranteed placement however, the placement percentage of the college overall is 20-30%. A Placement Cell is available for the students. In the department of psychology the students usually go for higher level studies instead of jobs straight away.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostel is available for both girls and boys. The hostel life is good as I have heard from my companions living in the hostel. The food is moderately good and the menu is changed monthly. The fee for hostel is currently 72000 rupees.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There are two main blocks, one for humanities and one for commerce, along with labs like the psychology lab. It is a considerably smaller campus as compared to other colleges in the city. But all amenities are available like the library which does have a decent range of books available for the students as well as two canteens and a playground for all the sports, events, and NCC. There is also a girls’ common room available for the girls where they can study, wait, etc.
 

Campus Rating
Fests and events are held regularly depending on the month like one to three times a month held by different clubs in the college like the rotaract club, psychology’s enactus club, and theatre’s sarva saksham club. Flash mobs to create awareness or to spread messages or even for other special event announcements are held regularly in the college canteen or at other places in the campus. Therefore the crowd and the campus life are pretty cheerful. One gets the opportunity to socialise and engage in the activities being held.

    SD College is a dream destination for the people living anywhere in the world. You will find majority of people from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, Jammu, U.P, Mohali, Chandigarh, etc. The student ratio includes more number of girls than boys. The crowd is very friendly and amiable. Everybody seems nice and kind. The college is affiliated to Punjab University, and the curriculum works according to the university norms and procedures.     The infrastructure is nice and the teachers are experienced and well versed in their respective subjects. The placement cell works hard to provide campus recruitment to final year students. Many MNCs and other reputed companies come to the campus for placement drives with attractive packages. There are many fests organised.     SD is one of the renowned colleges of Tricity having a good infrastructure and facilities. Moreover, it provides an equivalent opportunity to all of students to perform in various fields.     Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College is one of the best colleges in Chandigarh and especially a topmost college for students who want to pursue B.Com or B.Com (Hons.). It is dream college for many students as cutoff for B.Com is very high and seats are limited. When I applied for this college I got to know about the placement reports which is really true and Deloitte visited recently in our college and 28 students got placed which is really motivating for me.
