INIFD Kolkata is spoken highly of in fashion and interior industry. It has been 7 years now since I have passed out from this college but the memories are still fresh. I am writing this review with utmost fondness about how INIFD helped me give shape to my dreams and career. INIFD Salt Lake Kolkata provides an extended choice of courses to choose from. It is known as the Best A++ centre in India. They are the official knowledge partner of India's leading fashion and lifestyle events- Lakme Fashion Week and Femina Miss India. I had enrolled myself in the specialization course in Fashion Design. The eligibility is minimum class 12 pass or graduate and have age no bar. There are no entrance exams here. Every candidate is welcomed and given equally opportunities to explore themselves and INIFD promises to nurture everyone with utmost care and attention. I always wanted to become a fashion designer. I had made up my mind about what I wanted to become when I was just 14. After completing 12th boards I started fishing for colleges providing fashion courses and I came across INIFD Saltlake branch which is not so far from my home and seeing the prospectus and the probable opportunities n future I decided to join this college. These courses will definitely help to make a place in the industry if what is taught can be absorbed well. I also feel that the college could also include some digital design programs which is so important these days to get a likewise placement as world has become digitalized mostly and gets higher preference along with manual implementation.

The college had assigned 6 faculties to cover 12-14 subjects. During my tenure we have had some seasoned faculties with industrial exposure but I cannot vouch for all. Every subject was not taken care of and some were left incomplete but as far as illustration, pattern making and construction, textile, embroidery and English classes are concerned, they were efficiently taught. We were given individual attention from scratch till we became efficient theoretically and practically. At the same time some other areas such as digital implementation of designs needed equal attention which was missing. The faculty assigned in this department was under par.

The placements opportunities as promised during admission were failed to achieve. Our batch was just provided internship in a fashion multi-store which was more sales driven and no creativity to get inspired from. There were no job placements provided. So this was a very disappointing part that I experienced here. I got my career in place on my own merit.

No hostel facility is provided under this institute.

The whole area of my institution was not so huge but every amenity was managed quite well inside the small infrastructure. Starting from pattern, illustration, embroidery, theory and stitching room, sufficient numbers of stitching machines, dress-forms and computers, to a small kitchen for our laboratory needs were sufficed well without any hurdles.

My overall experience in this college was splendid. The seniors, classmates and faculties have been helpful and friendly to help us reach our goal during the course and specially our dean back then. I got to participate in fashion shows and exhibitions to showcase my constructed creative streak which were judged by well known and successful profiles of the industry. For being a student of this college I kept getting opportunities to backstage in shows and events like Blender’s Pride fashion tour, Signature Lifestyle, ILPA etc. I got to meet and interact with many celebrity actors, models and designers which felt like a feather added to my hat and that made this journey more meaningful. Over here celebrating Christmas extravagantly every year was a fix. An entire club or lounge used to get booked for all the INIFDians to party together and we had to dress up according to a given theme. We had arranged the Christmas party when we were in 1st year and were much appreciated by all the seniors and faculties. The fashion events that used to get held inside the campus used to be coincided with fests to make the event more entertaining and student’s performances used to be fillers. This initiative used to give exposure to other talents of students like singing, dancing or body painting etc. The students even used to put up food stalls for people to snack in and make a little extra money. I have won a few certificates of appreciation and ranked 2nd and 3rd for my singing during the tenure of my course. The whole journey in short was very eventful and memorable.
