In my opinion, IIIT-Bhubaneswar is just like a normal college. Of course, it is under Odisha Government and has its own funding, benefits, pretty decent infrastructure, etc. But don't be amazed by the name international and all. Also, don't expect too much like IITs and top NITs. It was established only in 2006. So, looking into the development, it’s a good job done by the institute to adapt within this time span.

The institute has mainly 5 branches; B.Tech, Computer Science Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunication, and Electrical Engineering. The branches do hold the name IIIT because IIITs are generally focused on circuit branches. Also, there are some courses for M.Tech and Ph.D students. Eligibility is of course, JEE Mains, 94 percentile was the general cut-off last year. My personal motive to enrol here was that among IIITs and within my rank, this was the best option. I got 96.2 percentile and I am OBC-NCL.

The teachers are pretty average. But also there are some good teachers with a vision. In the first semester, generally the teachers will seem boring. But it will improve drastically after the 3rd semester. The academic background is not that hectic. If you have a good hold on basics, it’s easy to pass the exams. But you have to be consistent (my personal advice).

Yes, of course there is a dedicated Placement Cell. Recently, the institute has signed a MOU with ISI (Indian Standards Institute). Also the institute is trying their best to cope up within the level of IITs and all.

The academic blocks are all in one. Generally, many events happen in an AC auditorium. Classes are also decent and there are good lift facilities in every corner. There are many playgrounds for leisure. Facilities like one tennis lawn, one football ground, a basketball court, table tennis facilities, and gym (does not have advanced equipment) are there. The items for playing all these will be provided by the institute. Also there is GC (Gaming Championship) to show your skills in sports. Seniors are also generally welcoming to play with them.

There are many events and also a lot of holidays to relax. The classes’ schedule is generally from 9.30 to 4.30-5.30. But there will be free periods. In first year, you will feel like the schedule is hectic but it’s a general problem with a new place. You can adjust easily and make friends. Many students are from various parts of India and you can experience that diversity in culture. The main tech-cultural event is named Advaita and you can have a lot of fun in it. It goes on for 4-5 days. Arman Malik was the main attraction this year for Advaita-24. You can compete academically also. Hackathons are often held time to time. If you have the skill, there are many opportunities to showcase it.
