Presidency College is a big name when it comes to the top colleges in Bangalore. The college is managed by the Presidency Group of Institutions. It’s a private college that is affiliated with Bangalore University. There’s no messing around as you will have to repeat the year even if your attendance short in just 2 subjects. However, college students are not encouragingly engaging in studies as there are very thin eligibility criteria for admissions. You will hardly feel as if you are a college student because the rules are damn tough to follow. Uniform is common practice in many colleges here and therefore that didn’t bothered me much but other aspects of the discipline were such that some of them were even questionable. During college hours you can’t participate or prepare for intercollegiate fests because at any cost you have to maintain the attendance above 75%. Some of the rules were good like you can adopt them for life. No littering on the campus and you can’t bunk the class and sit in the canteen. All these rules can be termed as favorable for students but some were too subjective.

Bangalore University on the verge of various private Universities have adopted a semester system in B.Com. This is quite good actually because to wait for a year for exams was just too much. First, you have to follow the protocols and rules in the college and after that, if you could keep your mind straight that I am here only for your studies, you will definitely enjoy it. Having said that there aren’t many choices as well. There are many societies inside the college but you can be their part once the college is over. Luckily we were free by noon as the college timings were from 8 am to 1 pm.

The faculty was young, friendly, and amazing. They were masters of their subjects and had no doubts that they taught so well that if you maintain a 75% attendance, the passing marks are guaranteed. Research-based studies even in B. Com was encouraged as giving life lessons looked far more important to the faculty than teaching the syllabus. Why not, as it will make us disciplined and even my parents started saying that please let me meet your teachers because, from messier, you have become so organized. Well, the faculty and the college, on the whole, deserve credit for that but again I am not in favor of such strictness.

Presidency College Placement cell has tie-up with some industries but B.Com just had a placement rate of 50% or even less. Due to disciplinary act, we had to attend the interviews and say all that the college has taught us. I actually said that you won’t find a disciplined employee than me and that is all that I can guarantee. The average package for the back office accounting posts that were offered was 3-4 lakhs. The top companies like BYJU’s, TCS (Digital) were the recruiters, and offering such jobs was not meant for me at least and I rather started planning for higher studies.

The college has boys and girls hostel facilities at a nearby location from the college. I never stayed or enter the hostel premises so don’t know much about it. All that I know is that Presidency College hostel was equally stricter as the wardens appointed were also quite strict and the rules were more or less the same for boys and girls.

The college was on the airport road and it was literally like we are going to another village for studies. Presidency College campus though was so fascinating that travelling 90 minutes one way in the college bus was a ride to remember. The library of the college was enriched with n number of books. The library is divided into the 2nd and 3rd floor of the main building. There are 4-5 labs and apart from the business lab which was meant only for MBA students we had access to all and all of them were high-tech. The fully air-conditioned seminar hall could take care of 300 students at a time. Many classes were also taken at the seminar hall to take a break from the classroom. The auditorium had gallery-style seats and was quite huge as over 1000 people can be accommodated there. I still had clicks of my graduation ceremony that took place at the auditorium. The sports department of the college has helped the college flag fly high as the college basketball team is one of the best in Bangalore. Not just the boys but even the girl's basketball team of which I was a part of during the 1st year was the finalists at the University basketball competition. Young adult girls need personal space and keeping that in mind the college has built a common girls room in the college building. The college has 2 canteens that are too costly but because the nearest restaurant was 4-5kms away, we again didn’t have a choice but to go there for the food. The infrastructure of the college was fantastic.

Wearing a Uniform and ID card was compulsory. Talking about the societies at the college they were quite a few. From social to media, you can join any society and have fun. There were hardly any fun activities at the campus other than the cultural fest for which we were given a week to prepare if we had to participate. Sports were at least taken seriously and it’s not the boys who took all the credit but even the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams were taken seriously.
