GNA University B.Tech Review By Vishal Saini

North Indian Universities are often accused of giving a pattern education that is limited to empowering students in its own periphery. As a GNA University student, I can say that the academic at the University was great but the placements weren’t. One piece of advice for students who want to do Computer Engineering please choose a college from the South as they are the hub of IT industries. GNA University Phagwara ranks among the best Universities in North India and is still in the tier-4 Universities in India. Most of the engineers produced by the University but are still offered clerical jobs. Moreover, GNA is also considered as a fool University but in reality, it isn't. The placement scenario will only start once the tech companies' start investing in the North otherwise Lovely Professional University too doesn’t have that great placement opportunities that colleges in the South have. In my 3rd year itself, I realized that a degree from GNA Phagwara will do no goods and started preparing for entrances for higher studies and my faculty members helped me out and also asked me to help some of the fellow students who have decided to leave for Canada and do a spot boy jobs at Malls in Canada.

The academic calendar was jam-packed and when I say jam-packed means every week we had assignments and that needs to be submitted. Monthly tests and surprise tests were also taken to ensure that students are up with the syllabus covered. There’s nothing more than a University can do in terms of academics. The students who used their sources to get into the University had their plans as they bunked at will and also never paid attention to what was being taught in the class. Such students spent 3 years in the same class and were finally thrown out of the University.

Some really good faculty and some really illiterate people were hired. The good ones were always on time and also made sure that each student has their basics clear. Computer Engineering holds great significance and in these trying times, the IT sector was the one where there were no job cuts plus many new engineers were hired. All the faculty were IIT passed out and were always on song once they started the classes. The faculty cared for the ones who were interested and ignored the ones who had nothing to do with the studies and have chosen engineering to have a degree behind their back.

Don’t watch any suites or the paper ads or the GNA University placement menu because it’s all fake. The placement scenario at the University was slim. Mechanical students literally begged for placements and CSE students also had a placement ratio of less than 30%. In this competitive environment where CSE students are in huge demand, GNA has failed to attract the companies even after teaching us well. The area is a factor but still, that’s not an excuse, and will admit that placements were pathetic.

The University has hostel for both boys and girls. GNA University hostel was simply superb as it was allotted purely on a double sharing basis. The room size was good enough and has a nice king-size bed along with a couch and 2 study tables. There was a common cupboard and attached washrooms. The hostel was cleaned periodically and surprise checking was also done to make sure that students don’t bring any toxic stuff with them at the hostel. The hostel also had accommodated hostel events in which only the hostel students were allowed to participate. The food provided at the hostel was proper Punjabi food as only the students from Punjab or nearby cities of Haryana were the ones who joined this college. Food was never an issue neither was the stay as both were comfortable enough.

GNA University is a newly opened University and I was from its first batch so the infrastructure was still developing and is still in the developing stage. The University is huge and all the buildings and the campus is so clean and well maintained. Being in Punjab rural area, its greenery or the connection with the environment is right at the top. The labs and the library were huge and both were well stocked. The college's auditorium was fully air-conditioned and all the events of the college from fests to guest lectures were held there. The college canteen was open and one can have their hands on tea, snacks, and cold drinks at the canteen. Every break during the lectures was spent at the canteen. The University has sports grounds and basketball courts separate for boys and girls. There’s a fountain at the front and Swans were seen grazing over there often.

Punjab has a lot of music aspirants and many students had the same aspiration. Luckily college hosted some 20+ events every year and students could showcase their talent in those events. Not just for singing many students of the University were also selected in the University football and cricket team. The college doesn’t have clubs as I saw at the engineering colleges in Bangalore and I hope all that starts soon so that students get more exposure and they start something on their own. University is still in a developing phase and it will be an established one in this decade.
