Kalyani Government Engineering College is located in the Nadia district in West Bengal and is amongst the top ranking engineering colleges in West Bengal for both the undergraduate and postgraduate engineering and Master of Computer Application (MCA) studies. The college was established in the year 1995. Students from various parts of West Bengal and some other states come to study engineering here. Being a final year student at Kalyani Government Engineering College I have realised many things about the overall culture and activities happening in college, apart from the studies. The college has many remarkable faculty members who are experts in their field. The alumni is also quite strong and they have left their mark in almost every part of the world in research and job roles. An alumnus of KGEC was part of the Mangalyan mission by ISRO and many such remarkable feats are achieved by the alumni of Kalyani Govt Engineering College.

For admission in the B.Tech courses the state engineering entrance examination that is WBJEE has to be cleared and particular cutoff rank has to be secured for each stream. Currently five Engineering streams are being taught at Kalyani Engineering College and those are Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Information Technology, Electrical and Mechanical engineering. The cutoff rank remains highest for the CSE branch. KGEC which is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) comes just after Jadavpur University in terms of cutoff rank for WBJEE. One need not have a deep pocket for studying here as it is almost fully funded by the Government of West Bengal. A state domicile of 10 years at least is needed for admission. Though the course curriculum under MAKAUT is not much updated according to the present times, peer learning is great here.

The faculties are highly qualified here with many years of experience in teaching. Many research papers are published by the faculty members and many of them are eminent members of acclaimed professional technical organizations such as the IEEE and CICBA. Dr. Santanu Das of Mechanical Engineering department has published more than 262 research items. Professors like Mr. Koushik Dasgupta have delivered many successful government funded projects under their guidance and many students are given the opportunity to work in them. The guidance and helping nature of teachers is much appreciated among the college students.

Kalyani Government Engineering College Placement stats have always shown an upward trend. In the recent years it has got an exponential growth in terms of average package. Our College faces some shortcomings due to its location at 50km distance from Kolkata but despite this due to efficient Training and Placement cell coordinators, companies like CTS, TCS, DDT, EY, Infosys, Byju's, Amazon etc. have recruited students offering many with handsome packages. Many students have bagged excellent job offers through off campus opportunities. Some noteworthy companies are Microsoft, Google, Media.net and DE Shaw. The average package is around 5 LPA and the TnP Cell works and try to get every student placed.

Just like the college, the hostels are also government funded to a large extent. There is a total of 5 boys' hostel and 1 girls' hostel. The hostels of the first year students are kept separate from the senior hostels. The rooms are really spacious with 3 sharing or 4 sharing. Separate beds, table and chairs are provided for every student. There is no rent fee or electricity fee, students just have to pay the mess bill and hostel recreational fees. Every hostel celebrates an annual hostel day called as hall day where various bands and bollywood artists are invited. The students perform the tasks of mess managing and store keeping for the mess. Common room with TV, computer, printer, gym and sports equipments, musical instruments are also provided.

Our campus is near the Kalyani Ghoshpara Station and shares the campus with the BCKV College and University of Kalyani. From many years KGEC was sharing the academic and office buildings with BCKV, but now the college has its own new academic and office buildings in different blocks. Various well furnished Computer, Electrical, Chemistry, Electronics and Machine labs are present with proper working equipments in place. Lab assistants and teachers are always there to help. We also have a sports and fest ground. The classrooms are not air conditioned. A conference room and seminar hall also present.

The campus life of Kalyani Govt Engg College is indeed very memorable and full of activities and peer learning. Apart from studies, there are many activities that happen all the year round and in which students can explore and gain new skills. We have more than 10 clubs and 4 cells of different genres such as music, dance, coding, entrepreneurship, DevOps, literature, quizzing, robotics, automobile, art etc., which inspires students to be more active and creative. One of the most eminent cells is KGEC E-Cell. We share very strong senior-junior interaction and relationships. The peaceful and green surroundings are serene.
