University of Engineering and Management B.Tech Review By Ankan Sarkar

When I took admission in this college in 2021, the placement rate of this college was very good. More than 250 students were placed during the COVID period with an average of 2 job offers per student. So I took admission in the college. When I initially visited this institute it looked great. I had done my schooling from a basic local high school so I was really charmed by the size of this college. This college is strictly for students who are disciplined. This college teaches you as school teach students. You have to be in the college on time and attend all lectures and you cannot go out of the college before all classes ends. Students who do not have any problem as such can definitely go in this college.

I am currently in the B.Tech course in the department of Computer Science and Technology. I chose this department because I took late admission to this college so all seats for CSE department were full so to make no year gap I had to take admission in this college. The entry requirement in this college is not very hard as you need to pass your 12th with 70% marks and physics chemistry and math have to be in the syllabus. Or you can take admission with any engineering entrance exam regardless of the rank. If students love software and coding and minimum hardware-related subjects, then this department is good for them.

The faculties in our department are good. Some faculties have excellent knowledge about the subjects that they teach. Others are ok. They are helpful and if you have doubts you can go to them after 4.15 and they will clear your doubt. Their teaching skills are also good. All faculties use projectors and a mic to teach. Almost all faculties are Ph.D holders.

Yes we have placement cell in our college and they help the students in getting a job. The placement cell is really strict at doing their job. They provide many links to courses from various websites like Coursera and NPTEL. Recently PWC conducted an online assessment test in the college and from the whole computer science department only about 100 students were selected.

Yes hostel is available for UEM but it is not inside the institute, it is actually about 1.8 km away from the college. Hostel is bad in my opinion as college charges about 102000 in the whole year which includes accommodation and food charges. The rooms in the hostel in really small there are 2 types of rooms available 2 person and 3 person rooms. There is barely any walking space in the rooms so students have to sit in the bed. There is an attached bathroom in every room. Food quality is very bad as they use too much oil and minimal amount of salt in the food. We have a fixed routine for the food and students feel monotonous by eating the same food every week. Occasionally. The behavior of the hostel supervisor is very bad he barely looks into the students.

The college campus is really small there are only 3 buildings and they are adjacent to each other. There is just a small field in the behind. Because of over-admission, many students gather in the canteen and the cafeteria resulting in crowded places. It is hard for students to get food during break time. There is a cheap store where students can get stationeries. Printing places are available. There is a big library which has plenty of course-related books.

In my opinion, The campus life in this college is not like any other college as students cannot enjoy college life. We have to maintain 75% attendance in all subjects, if not we get debarred from exams. From 9.30 to 4.15 we have to attend all classes and lectures. Student's health deteriorates by this strict rule. Also, students need to complete assignments, and various courses from online platform, there is barely any time to rest. The college expects students to just do their work with no personal time. One thing which I dislike about this college is you cannot get NOC for doing offline internships during semester. You can only get it during mid Semester break or in 4th year. There are a lot of clubs in this college, from technical to cultural all. Fests are also conducted in this college, like Ureckon and Eutopis and Ecstasia.
