Indian Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Chinmay Humad

My overall experience at IIT (BHU) Varanasi has been pretty good rather a beautiful one. At start when I came here I was somewhat nervous but atmosphere and culture here is too good even if you are not from nearby places. The seniors here are very supportive and always ready to help you in whichever way they can. Also here there is Sakha: Friend in Campus to address all issues faced by children. Moreover, Sattvik Mess adds to my good experience here as it provides tasty and delicious food without onion and garlic (Pure Veg).

I am pursuing B.Tech (4 years) in Civil Engineering. The admission in this college is through JEE Advanced exam. And for my branch that is civil B.Tech degree you can generally get selected on AIR (All India Rank) between 7000 and 10000. I wanted to join Civil Engineering firstly because I was not getting better branch than this and also I had interest in government exams like UPSC and IES. So students study and prepare for these exams here and hence there is good competitive environment for same.

The faculty members of Civil Department are really very good with years of experience and also some great young professors too. Basically maximum of them have done Ph.D and are best in their respective domains or specialisation. They have great knowledge about course and have good projects too with them. Basically this is not like school where teacher motivates you to study but, yes, if you want to study they are always there to guide you.

Yes, we have a Training and Placement Cell at IIT (BHU) Varanasi which works tirelessly for better opportunities for students. I myself being a part of that cell can surely tell that here we really work hard to help students get best internship and placement offers. Also there are several other programs also to help students prepare for their placements like CDP (Career Development Program).

Yes, there is allotted hostel for everyone who has got admission in IIT (BHU) Varanasi. There are separate hostels for boys and girls and yes life is much different in hostels than at home. I really enjoy my stay at hostel. Yes, there are open grounds for playing outdoor games like volleyball, badminton, etc. The construction is little bit old but there are new hostels also.

As I already mentioned the construction is little bit old since this is very old institute with large alumni base. But, yes, the departments are good and labs are functional with some instruments not working properly. Also there are several machine workshops and a big central library where all books are available academic, novels, etc. Also there is Health Center for students if not well. And then there are grounds for different sports like kabaddi, cricket, football, etc. and Student Activity Center (SAC) where there is gym and indoor stadiums of badminton squash.

Overall campus life is too good here. All types of people are there and I mean it. Cultural, Spiritual, Religious, Modern, etc. There are different clubs in each councils like SNTC (Science and Technology) , FMC (Film and Media), Cultural Council, SSC (Social Service), and then SCS Student Counseling Services and SAIC student alumni interaction cell. Also there are several fests like Kashiyatra (Cultural), Technex (Techno Management), Spardha (Sports), etc. with all being a lot of fun. Then here we also celebrate different festivals like Diwali, Lohri, and Independence Day together with lots of joy and excitement.
