Goa University opened doors for vast ocean of knowledge

Overall Rating
Goa University is the only university in the state of Goa. It is situated on the Taleigao Plateau. The university is spread across the plateau as it is a scattered campus. The university has a student exchange program affiliated with a university in Japan. Goa University being a Government-run university, the fee structure is minimal. Goa University is located at a very secluded location and is scattered. Hence it misses the charm of a college.
 

Academics Rating
I pursued MA in Women's Studies at the university. There is an entrance test that one has to clear before getting admitted for the course. I took up Women's Studies as it is relatively a new course in Goa. I glanced through the course details and it really interested me. The topics covered were highly crucial and relevant in today's time.
 

Faculty Rating
A total of five faculties taught us the course. University hosts many departments from various streams hence there must be more than 100 faculty members in the university. All the faculty members are highly qualified and skilled in their fields. Most and of them hold a Ph.D., and the rest are pursuing a Ph.D. All of these people are excellent at their job. They never fall short of passing on the knowledge to the students.
 

Placement Rating
Goa University organizes a job fair on annual basis. But I have never seen an overwhelming turnout of students for the same. This is because of the lack of communication. Most of the students are never aware of the job fair at the university. Secondly, the companies that come to the job fair in search of fresh talent mostly come looking for either the MBAs or those from professional colleges. Hence there are no many options for the humanities students in the job fair.
 

Hostel Rating
Goa University has two separate hostels for men as well as for women. I have never stayed in the hostel. Hence I cannot comment on the infrastructural details of it. Food provided in the hostel is of no good quality and students living in the hostel mostly prefer eating outside rather than eating in the hostel mess.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Goa University has a total of Seven faculty blocks on campus. Most of them are very old buildings. There are a few recent constructions. It has an auditorium big enough to host 500 people. All the necessary infrastructural arrangements for the students are made available on campus.
 

Campus Rating
Goa University, as I mentioned above is spread over the entire plateau. Hence is not a closed campus. It provided me with good quality education but not that great campus life. The university is situated at a very secluded location hence is not a happening place at all.
