In engineering colleges that are various factors that holds a lot of significance. I had high expectation and VJTI has more or less lived up to it. First and foremost the students that enter VJTI are hardworking and determined. I had prepared for the entrances at least 2 hours daily for 2 years and it was that effort that took me to this college. The college senior’s needs a special mention as they were available when and where required. Overall I would give 6 on 10 and I hope that 5 years from now it scores at least 9 on 10. More than anyone else it’s the students of VJTI who should be credited for the status that VJTI has reached today. Sharing my experiences with the college all I can say is there are opportunities galore. You will have the opportunity of sharing the classes with top students not just from Mumbai but from the entire state. Students from outside Maharashtra are very few though. The college is motivating as everyone in the campus is absorbed in something for sure.

Syllabus I felt was little outdated but the teaching was wonderful. In an engineering college one is dependent on the teachers but at VJIT it’s mostly of your own. This is where seniors came in handy as their valuable experiences and notes were the one that helped us clear semester after semesters. The labs and all are top-class as every damn thing mentioned in the books can be practiced in those labs. I did IT engineering and the 1st 2 years were somewhat serious types but in final year there were hardly any lectures. At VJIT, your subject understanding will never matter and it’s the matter that you study will matter. That matter will be provided to you by teachers during periodical tests and trust me if you prepare out of those questions, you will clear your exams.

First year did surprise me as the faculty was experienced and helpful. In subsequent years what I figured out was that faculty are signed for a 3 year contract and all of whom have passed out from some 3-tier institutes and hardly have any experience with them. This was not acceptable at all from one of the premiere institute but the management never had answers for that. Mass bunk against the teachers can be compared to farm protest that is going on in India currently. They might be doing it for no reasons but we had reasons for that but no one actually cared and none of our demands could be accomplished.

If you go and check the placement cell’s office, it was never empty. Students keep approaching and the training and placement department did their best to provide a good job to the students. Placement session mostly started in July and the companies kept visiting till the end of August. 2 months is a good enough time to find a job of your choice. However, only our IT department had that many jobs as other departments students struggled a lot. There is a placement officer in place who just want to improve the statistics rather than listening to students demand. This was the reason L&T InfoTech hired chemical engineers. Thus irrespective of the branch students got placed with IT companies the most.

VJIT has both boys and girls hostel. The hostel last entry for boys hostel is 11.30 pm which is highest if you check the same with other hostels in Mumbai. The hostel also has a common TV room that is available for access from 5pm to 11.30 pm. Checking was hardly done if a student has failed to report the hostel before the last entry time, he/she has to stay out for the whole night as they can’t enter before 6am. The hostel mess is clean and hygienic and any wastage of food is not at all allowed. The hostel facilities and all are quality and rather than find space elsewhere, hostel should be a preferable option for outsiders.

Well since the institute is government aided the funds that are allotted are not used wisely. Some of the laboratories are exceptional while some are pathetic. For IT department the college is a heaven but for other departments I am still amused why it is rated so highly. I passed out in 2016 and the campus didn’t have Wi-Fi. The classrooms have air-conditioned and that is the only thing about the infrastructure that is worth bringing up. There is one basketball court in the campus and the students are numerous. To play basketball first you have to spend hours and hours practicing and if you are able to impress the coaches you might have a chance to play otherwise stay away. There are few luxuries like fully air-conditioned auditorium and centralized air-conditioned library. I hope they take care of the basic things first as luxury can wait.

Student life at VJIT is the best. The semesters planning is done wisely as we had enough time in-between to do extra activities. Internship could be easily availed through campus. The fests were all organized by students and that helped us learn some managerial skills. Only if everything at the campus was structured I would have rated my college highly.
