Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce BBA Review By Rakesh Singh

Pune is a distinguished name in terms of colleges and choosing the best college perhaps can land one in turmoil. Not just for me but even for my parents, we roamed in the city for a week before finally concluding that BMCC Pune is the one where I will study BBA. Coming from UP BMCC was unheard of as it is more popular in Maharashtra. When I read about the college, we saw that college has won many titles and is a legend in college. The college turned autonomous and the started a course called BBA-IB (International Business). Initially I did have some doubts but then committing to the regular is not what I came to Pune for. Management and the faculty of the college are well-versed and experienced. For management students a special event called TROIKA is conducted where all three streams of BBA students perform. BMCC College Pune campus may be little small but good enough and that is why every now and then movie shoots are held in the college. If you are lucky enough you can get a chance to see your favorite stars from nearby. The college crowd is a family as you will find Punekars to Afghani students at the campus.

Academic wise the college is stricter than anyone. The classes in comparison to other colleges were little longer. Well, that’s BMCC for you as academics is main here and that is why after short listing MITSOM, Symbiosis and BMCC, my parents made it clear that you are only going to get admission here. The course had way too many subjects and different credits for different subjects. The college has designed the course by brining on board some of the cleverest brains. You can’t skip any subject and that was the beauty of the course. BBA-IB from BMCC is equivalent to MBA or at least half the MBA for sure.

Well they were strict often but equally friend after the classes. Any doubts and you can throw yourself to them. They will even skip their lunch breaks if students had doubt and used every single minute to make sure students can go back home and relax. The faculty were clear that attending classes will not just help them with syllabus but will also get few extra during internals. This was a bribe but it was in interest of the students. If it is regarding academics the faculty are there for you always and if it’ personal then also they didn’t back out. The faculty were our mentors for career guidance and it’s their advice that helped us choose the right course and colleges in future.

Since we were among the first batch the college took utmost care in making sure that all of us get placed. The college provided us a proper training and some faculty members were outsourced to train us for the campus interview. Banks and IT companies were the main recruiters. Students were asked upfront if they want placements because for the ones who were interested in higher studies were advised to stay away. I had future plans for higher studies and had to give up on appearing for the interview. The average package that BMCCians got was of Rs. 4-5 lakhs.

BMCC Hostel was built the year I joined and a chief rector was assigned to allocate rooms. Since I wasn’t a merit student I was not allowed to stay in the hostel. The reason was that they had less rooms and demand is high. The hostel was strict and no outsiders were even allowed to enter the premises of hostel building. The hostel rooms were average as I saw the pictures and I thought better off staying outside. The hostel provided food and that had Marathi menu in it mostly. If you are not satisfied with the food, you can go out and have the food but can’t order a parcel as that is not allowed at the hostel. I felt there were way too any restrictions and its better off staying outside only. There are boys and girl’s hostel building in the campus but with limited rooms.

The college building will remind you of some museums of 17th century. The college has just one admin building and 2 hostel buildings in the BMCC campus. There was a library at the first floor and also a small gymnasium. The college has a huge playground and was used during intercollegiate sports fest. The college boasts greenery and you will find enough shade to hang out with your friends. The college also has a canteen which served mostly the Maharashtrian menu.

Well BMCC doesn’t have too many clubs or activities apart from TROIKA that was a pure management fest, the marketing fest called KIOSK, and the annual cultural fest called ASTITVA. These events helped us to sharpen or showcase the other skills that we had. The management also supported thoroughly to make us be a part of the events. The college architecture was grand and unlike many other colleges the college has a smoke free campus and if anyone is caught smoking inside the premises the management took strict actions against them.
