Ravenshaw University B.Sc Review By Bikash Majhi

Ravenshaw University is the one of the oldest colleges of Odisha. It was the college of many of the freedom fighters of Odisha, who have started their independence movement from here. So, from around a century ago it was very reputed and one of prestigious college of Odisha. As of now , it is the one of the best University of Odisha with a NAAC rating of A++ , which is itself a historic moment of Odisha. So I am very proud to doing my graduation from this University. One of the best things about college is its affordability. It is affordable to everyone. The college is located at the heart of Cuttack with so many facilities like research laboratories, gymnasium, playground, hostels, a cafeteria, library, and separate buildings for each department. The history of the University and the quality of education is very good. So I would like to recommend for considering the Ravenshaw University for your studies.

I am pursuing B.Sc Zoology. The research infrastructure for practical of zoology is good. The teachers also very qualified and very good at their subjects. The University provides both general courses for Bachelors and Masters for all subjects and also provides professional courses like MBA, BBA, and ITM and other courses like BA, B.Ed, B.Sc, & B.Ed. The admission process is little bit lengthy. There is no entrance exam for admission. The admission is based on purely on the basis of merit, which has to apply through the state government portal called SAMS Odisha website. So if you wish to get admission, especially in science stream, then you must have secured a good percentage in your 12th class.

Faculties are highly qualified in their respective fields and knowledgeable. Almost all faculties are Ph.D holders and there are around 9 to 10 faculties per department. All the departments of science stream have their own respective laboratory for practical. Our Zoology department has a wonderful Museum for study of specimens of organisms. The teaching quality is good, according to me. All the faculties try to make the class more engaging and interesting. There is regular seminars are conducted for extra knowledge of students.

Yes, our college has a Placement Cell for students, but it is not so functional.

Yes, our college has hostel facilities for both girls and boys. Girls hostel are highly secured. The hostel infrastructure is good, equipped with all kind of facilities like canteen, TV room, and study room. The food is also average and mess bill is also below ₹2000 per month, depending on hostel. The hostel organise its own annual function, competitions, etc. Overall hostel life in our college is good.

All the departments have its own building, with all necessary facilities like department library, laboratories, campus Wi-Fi, smart screens, etc. The all academic building is inside the campus only. There is a big playground in the middle of the college, with 2 cricket grounds, 1 football field, 1 basketball court, 2 volleyball ground, and net for cricket practicing.

The campus life of Ravenshaw is very good. There is no ragging at all. The total strength of our college is about 5000 but there is not much crowd in the campus. Our college has many clubs like literary club, music club, drama club, etc. The college organises many educational as well as cultural programmes on a regular basis, which is very much exciting and interesting. The individual hostel organises its own annual functions and many fests are also conducted frequently.
