The College of Engineering and Technology is a government college that is best known for the achievements of its students. It is difficult to get a seat as all the top students prefer CET to other engineering colleges. The college has a good profile and it is assumed that you are a good student if you hail from CET. It helps you boost up your CV and you naturally get some preference as compared to pass outs from other private engineering colleges. It offers all courses starting from undergraduate, post graduate to doctoral level. It also has courses in architecture.

I decided to pursue my Masters degree after B.Tech from IIIT Bhubaneswar. So, I gave the entrance exam conducted by Odisha JEE Cell. Normally all engineering colleges of Odisha consider OJEE result for admission into Masters degree courses. Also they consider GATE scores. I secured a good rank, within top 30 in the exam and my first preference was CET. I was able to get a seat in one of the top most specialization of Electrical engineering. And the course was designed by CET itself as it was an Autonomous college by then. The worst part about the course is that it doesn't offer you even a basic stipend even if you have qualified GATE. There are other colleges, lower than CET ranking that offer a basic stipend to post graduate students. Though the fees is quite affordable when compared to other private colleges. The course subjects are good and they have also introduced practical, but they lack in proper execution. The College doesn't even maintain a proper database or intranet system, and for a minor work, you have to fill number of forms and move from this desk to that. You cannot even get any notice at the right time as they do not maintain their sites at all.

Most of the faculties are not even bothered about the course completion. They teach according to their own convenience and take classes as per their choice. Many a times, they will call you early and will not even show up. And there are also times when they will reach early and accuse you of coming late, and will create a ruckus. They will not even take class and will go on ranting unnecessarily. Some teachers are serious and regular, and they do their job sincerely. But, most of them are not able to deliver their knowledge appropriately and expect you to do everything by yourself. They don't motivate you enough neither do they make the classes interesting. Although most of them are highly qualified, but they do little to keep themselves up-to-date with the modern trends. They stick to the age old educational system. You cannot rely upon them at all and you will have to finish all the syllabus by yourself.

The College gets good placement opportunities just because it has the best students of the state, who perform very well in their academics. Those who excel here are actually self independent and there is a very little involvement of the college in their success. Yet, the placement cell is very active in the Facebook group and they do their work well. Top companies visit the campus and the placement percentage is also high. But they do not offer many opportunities for M.Tech students. Mostly software companies are the main recruiters who don't even offer better packages to higher qualified candidates. They offer same packages as offered to B.Tech students. None of the students from our batch got placement through college.

Although I was a day scholar, I had some friends living in the hostel. And I had also visited their rooms a few times. The rooms are good and the hostel fees is very reasonable. But it is difficult to get accommodation as a lot of students apply for hostel facility and there are not enough rooms available. The food is not at all good. The infrastructure is good. But they don't pay adequate attention for the security of the students. There have been many incidents where other college students have entered the college and fights have broken out.

The infrastructure is quite old and they don't even have enough class rooms to conduct regular classes for all batches. The benches and tables are damaged, the class rooms are gloomy. They are not even well lit. Nor are they cleaned regularly. You don't even get a room to sit at your leisure. The labs are not that advanced. You have to stand all the time and perform experiments or write records. They are strict unnecessarily most of the time. The libraries also have an age old system of issuing cards if you want to borrow books. They don't even maintain a database to keep records. There is just one complex in the campus that has two three shops and also a fast food junction. Also the campus has no boards to guide you through.

The College makes you self dependent and you learn to strive all by yourself. It improves your own capabilities and you learn almost everything by yourself. There are fests and activities going on throughout the year and the technical fest is one of a kind. There is no involvement of teachers, the students are all in all. But, the best thing about studying in CET is that it adds a very good image to your profile and gives you an edge over others. Also a few teachers are really helpful and guide you properly for your future endeavors. They also help you in projects at times. Overall, if you are ready to learn everything by yourself then the college is ideal for you, but if you want to be spoon fed, then you may face problems initially.
