Ramjas College B.Com Review By Hariom Carpentar

Staying in Vikas Nagar Ramjas was always my first choice college. Among all the colleges in North Campus, Hansraj College and Ramjas are the ones that see the highest cut-off. Still Ramjas I believe is among the under-rated colleges as the faculty for all three stream commerce, science and arts is the best among colleges in Delhi. I was a B. Com student and the teaching staff of cost-accounting and financial investment analysis was the best. There are a lot of subjects to choose from and Ramjas will provide you a variety of teachers for the same subjects. The college is more than satisfying if you are into extra-curricular activities. Mostly all the DU colleges will provide you the same opportunities & resources. Hence, you can make the college good and bad depending on your experiences. The college is laidback when it comes to attendance and therefore improves your skill at the various societies of the college.

Laid back is the only word I can think of. Attendance was not compulsory and if you are into a society the teachers and staff will back you pursue that interest. The study labs in the college are quite old and the management was building a larger wing and I hope that all those problems would have been addressed. The college did provide internship opportunities and this is why the placements of the B.Com students are equal with many top DU colleges. Yes the college won’t push you to study hard or explore the other interests. Once you are in college, it becomes your duty and requires self-motivation.

Quality and dedicated is how I will define them. They won’t push until you ask them on your life goals but once you start sharing they will make sure that you have all the help in their capacity. The faculty members take active interest in how the societies are functioning and how they are going to present at the fests or the social clubs what all the programs they have under-taken. Some of the teacher were a milestone as I was confused because I didn’t know even in my last year of graduation that how to move forward. One of my teachers asked me what you want in life and I said I need a good job. They were the ones who asked me to prepare for entrances and also helped me to prepare for GD and PI. It was due to their help that I could become a part of Symbiosis family later in my life.

Well the college has always made sure that they do their best so that the students walk away with a job in their hand. Not just private but many government companies like Power Grid and ONGC also was present for the interview. Some cracked while failed and the average job that the students got was INR 30-35,000. As a fresher and most importantly the job venue was Delhi itself. The placements were decent at Ramjas and if you are the one who has been consistent with the score than the job beckons.

Ramjas hostel is only for candidates coming from outside as Delhi residents are not allowed to stay in the hostel. I was from Delhi but I had many friends in the hostels and they told me that the hostel rooms are big and are also furnished. There is also a small girl’s hostel as well which is in a separate wing. Every day newspapers and magazines were provided to the hostellers. The building is quite old but the rooms were new. The hostel has a mess that is run monthly by students themselves. The hostel students also had more opportunities as the hostel students used to form a team among themselves and a tournament of cricket was played between them.

The college is big but the building is too old. Please don’t check the pictures as I have seen the live visuals for three years. The college is one of the oldest and they have started constructing new wings and I hope that the main building too in constructed again. The college library was turned digital few years back I joined the college. The library also had a Xerox center and a computer lab inbuilt. The fitness center of the college is newly constructed and is therefore fully air-conditioned. There are many aerobics and yoga class rooms. Paying a nominal fee, you can be a part of that. The fitness center also has a locker room. The canteen was so-so and so was the amphitheater.

The college timings were 8am to 2pm and I never returned home before 6pm. My house was not far but there were so many activities going around in the college and I always wanted to stay in the mix so I invested a large chunk of my time at the college itself. From any interest be it drama or politics the college will let you explore all that you need but one thing that will be required from your end is commitment. I was a committed member of health care society and never missed my evening Yoga classes at the college.
