NSS College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Tijil Thomas

NSS Engineering College is almost a five decade old college and one of the most reputed and known college in Kerala and India. The college most of the time stands in top ten engineering colleges in Kerala. Many students aim for this college due to its name and reputation. The college is known for B.Tech courses and students are selected based on the rank list they get during the entrance exam. Only students who get top ranks will be selected further there is also counseling and 12th marks. Hence it is little difficult to get selected. If you have good rank then you can be confident.

I joined for B.Tech course and I took the specialisation in instrumentation. I wrote my JEEE as the entrance exam and got within thousand rank overall and thus I got the opportunity to study with NSS. The reason for joining as I heard there are more job opportunities especially in middle east and hence decided to take up for the same reason. The course had no doubt had 100% placements and I also got in one of top paying company through campus placement.

Most of the faculties have completed their M.Tech and PhD and they have on an average 11 + years of experience. Some faculties have corporate experience which adds value to the teaching experience. The subjects handled are very well by most of the teachers with an exemption of 2-3 teachers. Which is bound to happen in all places. But other faculties are highly knowledgeable in their respective fields.

The college provides quite a lot of corporate training opportunities making the students more prepared to face the interviews with confidence. I was also fortunate to be part of many trainings which was conducted and this prepared me to face the interview and crack the rounds. I was able to crack a job offer with Tata Elxsi a dream company of many. This was one of the high paying companies. There were also many other IT companies who start coming for hiring beginning from the 4th year.

There are three hostels which are separate for boys and girls and are in two different blocks. There is also another hostel exclusively available for freshers. The college is without a doubt a very homely environment and food served is hot and fresh. I have rarely felt homesick in hostel because of the environment created by the hostel warden and others.

The college has well equipped laboratories with required tools to be used for experiments. Most classes are well facilitated with LCD projector which is sometime used by the faculties if they want to project something during the session. There are also around 4 cafeterias where we find majority of the students hanging out. Most of the students favorite place is this.

Overall it was one fun filled campus life. This was my first college life experience which was full of learning, events, competition, exams and more. We have inter collegiate and intra collegiate fest, it is during this time the college is so vibrant and we get to meet students from other colleges and universities. We also get an opportunity to compete for various events. It was a joy filled four years with NSS.
