Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology MBA Review By Jamshed Khan

If you want to do an MBA in HR/Marketing then avoid SCIT as it is known for MBA in Information Security. If you do that you will surely find yourself working at the BIG 4. The college is located at the IT hub of Pune that is Hinjewadi. I will give you my perspective on life at SCIT. The college is in the same campus as SCMHRD. Another Symbiosis institute SIIB’s campus is just behind SCIT and you will have many superior brans in the same campus. The institute provided us many other activities and taught us to be future leaders. The evening and guest lectures by IT stalwarts made us learn the importance of IT sector and the role that they play. Interacting with them gave us an insight on how things work. Students of this institute have climbed the ladders and are now comfortably sitting as CTO, and CIO of various prestigious organizations.

The industry relevant course made it easy to understand and learn as I was a CA dropout by choice because the IT sector was my preferred choice. The course included topics like cyber security, risk management, and data analytics among others. The course can be entirely related to the IT sector and the main draw in the studies is the info security. Along with studies many curriculum activities kept us going. The presentations and working on practical’s made us ready before time and the final semester we were given the opportunity to work alongside Security Brigade, Suryodaya Microfinance and Ansh Systems among others. Those 3 months we had to attend the college just once in a week and throw a light on what we learned so far. Every student used to share their experience and the studies actually looked like training.

Special faculty members seem to be recruited as I have not seen such faculty members in my life. They were co-operative and also the one with experience of working in the corporate sectors. Their teaching style and everything was just too good to be true as they never burdened or pressurized us. Helped in all that we could and also understood in which areas can we contribute? The faculty members built the team likewise and group studies is what they always encouraged for.

The amount of knowledge that was implanted in us was something and helping us getting placed was another. Only 60% of the students got placed and me even after showing my mettle as what I can offer in information security. No giant IT companies visited the campus during 2 years that I was with the college. Some small scale IT industries and micro-finance companies were the one that took half the students. Few students went to big 4 and me along with some of my batch mates were left to find the job post college. Some of the students had experience behind their back while fresher’s like us were always preferred after them. Carrying an experience baggage before joining the college will help.

The hostel for SIIB, SCMHRD, and SCIT is shared and therefore you get the opportunity to interact with students of those colleges as well. Different wings of boys and girls hostel are made and both have a strong security that keeps things in check. The residential hostel is great as it is laced with all the facilities like a common area, clean rooms, and some sports activity as well. Now comes the difficult part as the college is slightly in remote area like there are not many shopping complexes or food joints around. Hence, the food provided by hostel is what with which you have to satisfy your cravings. I don’t know about the rest but my taste buds definitely didn’t appreciate the food that was provided. We did complain but nothing changed and the menu too was mostly common. The roadside tapris is where I had food mostly during those 2 years.

The campus has 2 colleges and one is just behind ours. The hostel was located outside the campus. Inside the campus both the colleges have their own library, and auditoriums. Common auditorium is also there and a small play ground is also there at the ground. The college also has a sick room and a basketball court that is shared by all 3 colleges. The basketball matches among the 3 colleges was a weekend thing and boys and girls both used to form the teams. There is a large cafeteria but again the food was costly but not tasty. The graffiti on the walls made the college campus look colorful.

Interactive brains and prolific teachers that is what the campus offers. With Symbiosis one thing that is guaranteed is happening. Life at the campus was happening as if you are done with the studies on time, you can participate in the events and the large cultural fest that is attended by many strong personalities. The MBA students can be termed boring but you can’t say that until you have seen them performing. All in all, life at SCIT was fun and cold have been more pleasant has they provided a suitable placements as well.
