IIIT Bhubaneswar is a good college option if you are actually interested in Engineering. After IITs and NITs, IIITs enjoy a very special status. You will never regret studying here as it improves your overall personality and develops your interest towards engineering. Earlier, it used to participate in the counseling process undertaken by the Government of Odisha and you could only get a seat if you scored really well in the engineering entrance examination conducted by the State Government. But now it conducts its own counseling and students all over India can get admission into the college with their JEE Scores and Academic performance. The cutoffs are decided by the College authority itself.

I joined in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering stream as I was interested to choose a core branch. But the course was designed by BPUT and was not up to the mark at all. The syllabus was not updated. But later, it was recognized as a unitary university by UGC and it brought all the necessary changes as well and also designed a flexible credit system which was quite impressive. Also, the college is best for computer science and IT stream.

The Institute has very good faculty. They do not believe in spoon feeding the subjects. You will have to be self independent and put in all your efforts so as to score well. They also set a very good standard question paper and the evaluation is also strict. So, you will have to work hard to score good grades. The faculty also give equal importance to practical sessions and projects. Practical classes are conducted very efficiently. The laboratories are very well equipped and the safety measures are also followed strictly.

The Training and Placement cell is very active and conduct frequent seminars for interacting with the students. They are very well organized and they constantly put in their efforts to bring as many recruiters as they can. They conduct training from the third year itself and the classes are also good. They conduct workshops and invite top companies to interact with the students. Also, the recruitment drives are conducted really well. Almost 80 percent of the students get placements. Top companies like Infosys, IBM, ITC, TCS recruit a good number of students every year from IIIT Bhubaneswar. The Training and Placement cell also attracts companies to offer paid internships to its students from the Third year itself.

It is primarily a residential college. Hostel life is very good here and you will cherish the memories forever. The hostel fees are also reasonable. They provide all the basic necessities and services. They clean the corridors regularly and the bathrooms are also cleaned twice daily. They also provide common washing machine and water purifiers at each floor. They have a gym too. The food is not that good and options are really less. Also there are a very few shops inside the campus which provide the basic items like stationary and stuffs. Sports tournaments are organized in the hostels too. There are common rooms for recreational activities inside the hostels.

The infrastructure is really good, although basic, still the planning is good. The classrooms are well ventilated and well lit. The rooms are spacious too. The library is vast. It has an open source library too. The playground is large and mostly the fests are organized there. But they are not very well maintained. Previously, it was cut off from the main city. But now the commuting has very much improved with public bus facilities. Also, a bus plies daily from the campus to the city in the evening.

The campus life is awesome here as there are many societies that you can join as per your interests. Cultural events are organized all year round so as to encourage interaction amongst all. The annual fest is a really huge event. Technical and cultural events, coding competitions, hackathons occur all year round. You can find a place for yourself as the college has clubs and societies of every genre -from dance groups, musical orchestra to robotics societies. The student societies are very active and organize all the activities mostly by themselves. The campus life is worth it if you live in the hostel. There is greenery all around and you will love the campus.
