Banaras Hindu University B.Com Review By Komal Didwania

I Passed out from BHU in 2012 and I still cherish the memories I made at the college. BHU as we all know has many accreditations to its name. The university is a central university and it runs on funds provided by the central government. The university provides extremely subsidized and quality education to its students. It one of the top universities in the country and has earned its name at the international level too. Admission to the faculty of commerce is via entrance examination hosted by the university every year. The college is managed in a very systematic way based on strict guidelines.

I have completed my B.Com (Hons.) from the faculty of commerce, Banaras Hindu University. I was lucky to be selected on the main campus. The selection process is via an entrance exam which is conducted by the university. The course is open for anyone who has completed is +12 successfully. On the basis of the entrance exams, students are selected. I opted for B.com (Hons) because it is one course that summarizes economy and business relations. The course was extremely well designed in BHU with a proper balance of theory and practical examples. The students were expected to prepare reports and presentations taking real-life cases to understand the concept better. The course offered placement in the financing, accounting, banking jobs across the country.

The faculty of commerce had more than 10 professors over a period of 3 years. The overall number of faculty of the whole university is way more. Each professor in the commerce faculty had more than 15 years of teaching experience with more than 8 Years of experience with the university. The professors were pioneers of their fields and most of them had PhDs. All the professors were extremely good at explaining the concepts and delivering the lectures. The professors had open-door policies and the students were free to approach them to clarify issues or understand things better. The professors were overall co-operative to accommodate each and every student.

The placement and training cell is run by the student body under the mentorship of the professors in the faculty of commerce. A number of BPOs and junior management position are offered to the student of the faculty of commerce. The college successfully places all the students who are willing to take up jobs. The college organizes training and seminar for the students to help them with the interview and selection process. The professors are always available to help and guide the students. The students who are preparing for further studies are also guided by the professors. The average package of our batch was around INR 4.5 Lakh.

The campus has over 60 hostel blocks. The hostel for girls and boys is separate each hostel has over 50 rooms and each room accommodates 3 students. Each hostel has a warden and the student and hostel are managed by the warden. Each hostel has its own mess which provides the student with good quality meals. The hostel mess is closed on Saturday and the students are free to order in or have dinner outside. The hostel facility is available to students at an extremely reasonable price of approx. Rs. 3000/SEM and a mess charge of INR 40/meal. In case the student is not planning to take a meal they can inform the mess in advance and they won't be charged for that meal. The hostels have certain restrictions on guests keeping in mind the security of students and a curfew time to enter the hostel.

The main campus of BHU is spread across 1300 acres of land. The campus is not only a pioneer university but is also a landmark in history. The campus is not only huge but extremely green and clean. The campus has a major hospital with it i.e. Sir Sunderlal Hospital. Each faculty has its own building on the campus. The building has facilities as required by the courses. The faculty of commerce had its own library in the building which was sufficient enough to cater to the book requirements of the student. The central library of the campus also offers a huge collection of books for students from each field. Then campus has multiple canteen/eateries which provide students with subsidized meals. There are world-class quality courts for all kinds of sports on the campus which are accessible by the students. The health is in addition to the hospital, although the hospital is open for everyone, the centre looks after days to health need of students only. Students can get all vaccination and test free of cost.

The campus life at BHU is incomparable as the university doesn't only provide a huge campus and facilities, it also provides students with tons of opportunities to explore and enhances their skills. The students are free to explore other faculties which give them an opportunity to interact with students of different fields. The college fest brings out the best talent from the campus as well as affiliate college students. It provides the students with an opportunity to showcase their talent and hone their leadership skills. The fests are organized and managed by the student body. The Student council of each faculty plays an important role in bringing the whole university on the same page. Overall the campus life is really vibrant and exciting. The BHU campus is a green campus and offers a healthy environment for its students.
