St. Joseph's University B.Com Review By Anupam Malviya

I studied in St. Joseph’s for 3 years and every single day at the college was worth it. Look Joseph is not about degree but one can have an overall development at the college. There are many organizations, community works, and various other organizations are at the college that provides each student an opportunity to participate in various events that keeps happening in college. The college is a haven for arts and cultural lover as there a range of exhibition and fest that keeps happening at the college. Many social issues on NDTV have been telecasted from our college. The college in a sense needs no introduction at all as I am from Rajasthan and like me many students from various states of India are a part of this college every year. Over the years the alumnus of college has went on and become noted personalities in fields such as athletics, politics, cinema, journalism, and businesses.

The college is known for the academic value that it brings. However, the college has applied major stress on developing the all-round personality of students rather than just making them book worms. The college has 45 clubs in-built that makes sure that students are not just into studies but engage in other activities as well. There are many career oriented clubs as well and mentoring is done on how to pursue high studies that will help us in future. Not just the education but the life lessons are what the college believes in and that is what they imparted in all of us. The strictness is in place as if the attendance is below 75%, the exam hall tickets are not given to those students. I mean it as I have seen it with my own eyes and thus if you join this college make sure that you are willing to come to college daily otherwise please don’t join.

Coolest is what our faculties were. As soon as they realized that students are not over the previous lecture they will rather leave the books and do fun sessions in the class. The outsiders were always treated as equals by the college. The faculty always made us believe that if we engage ourselves with some other interest along with studies only then we can give our best and that is how they encouraged us. Some of the faculty members were young and was so cool to talk to them. All the faculty members kept a friendly approach towards the students and that’s what made them our favorites.

The college worth can be determined only with the kind of placement that it provides. Yes, the college also has formed a society that took care of this part and this is how most of us were offered offer letters from companies such as Accenture, Amazon, E&Y, and SAP Labs were the companies that showed interest in commerce students. It was nice being a part of the campus placement program as it helped gain some experience. I already decided to pursue higher studies and therefore even though I had an offer with SBI decided to drop it and move on. The average CTC was in the range of Rs. 3-4 lakhs for B.Com students.

The hostel building itself is one of the best architect marvels that you will see. The three floor building has n number of rooms that accommodates nearly 2k students. The college is a boys hostel and was built way back in 1948. The first year, we were given rooms on triple sharing but from 2nd year onwards we were relocated to double occupancy rooms. The hostel has recreation rooms, common rooms, indoor sports facility, own mess and access to the library for hostelities is 24*7.

The college campus as per the ratio of student is little compact for sure. The campus has different blocks for each of the streams. Among the facilities that are there at the campus includes modern classrooms, health center, gymnasium. The college campus has a cafeteria and a corridor on each floor. The space of the corridor is less but still adjustable. The college has prioritized sports and therefore the campus has 2 badminton courts, a basketball court and an indoor sports house that has table tennis and chess boards. The college campus also has a Chapel (a small Church), and an air-conditioned auditorium. The college campus is full Wi-Fi and is also secured with many CCTV cameras that cover the length and breadth of the college.

There are numerous societies and the professors also took stocks of which all societies have students joined. It was not a compulsion but still the management made sure that their students are engaged in some or the other clubs. The counseling center of the college was the place that I used to go often as coming from a small town and with a lot of hopes, I was worried about my career and those counseling sessions on future planning were actually helpful. Unfortunately that there were 2 buildings construction going on during our time to add more classrooms made it noisy and by the time I left the college they were only half completed. Hope they are done and dusted with that as I enjoyed every single minute that was spent on St. Joseph’s campus.
