Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology and Sciences B.Tech Review By Anu Gabriel

Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology & Sciences 1 (GGITS1), in Jabalpur (M.P.) is a privately owned institute along with its sister college Gyan Ganga College of Technology, affiliated by Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) University in Bhopal (M.P.). I got admitted through AIEEE score. Students also get admission through JEE or MPPET scores and of course through management quota by paying a good amount of money to the owners of this college. It has been ranked between 25-60 by ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements). While housing multiple degree courses, the management team has done a good job investing in huge infrastructure and top notch facilities for students over the years. The main goal is to run the institute as a business and the owners and partners are doing a good job at it. Co-curricular and extra-curricular exposure is excellent in this college.

Being an alumni of Electronics & Communication Engineering, I can say that college and lecturers will fulfill bare minimum responsibilities and hence student needs to extract as much for their benefit and development. The quality of education mainly depends on the knowledge and skills of lecturers, which I consider good for GGITS 1. The classes are held regularly, and management team makes sure to take rounds for impromptu inspections to keep the faulty under check. Attendance is taken very seriously and can affect student’s eligibility to appear in final semester examination. Lab sessions are helpful but nothing out of the box. The college also offers short technical courses which can be opted to receive a certificate after clearing the exam, so that you do not have to seek it outside on a higher price. There were no Union or intra-college elections during my batch. The institute recently has introduced MBA, MCA & M.Tech courses along with Engineering degree courses, which broadens the options in curriculum for a student, if they want to pursue higher studies.

There are good number of lecturers for each course. However, the hiring process is fairly poor and not every candidate selected for the lectureship is based on merit or experience. The fresher are hired with the sole purpose of having to pay less than 10000/- per month. Which I believe is equivalent to showing disrespect to the profession and any individual. The senior faculty is well versed, but the non-experienced teachers need to put in more effort and time. For real time self-made projects or lab assignments, students should not expect help or guidance as most of the faculty is not innovative but only bookish.

The college has preparatory guidance classes for campus placements. However, it is hard to find a mentor who can give a real-time guidance about the job market needs to get prepared if you end up searching for a job on your own. I received guidance from senior students only and of course internet. Students in my batch joined personality and technical knowledge development classes which are offered by some private coaching institutes in the city because, to grab any job offer overall development is also important. The average package received was Rs. 3-6 lakhs per annum for my batch mates. I would like to suggest that one should not have all their hopes on college placements only. The student will have to make themselves aware and build network. Reason being, firstly, the selection process is not always transparent and secondly, the management team sometimes comes up with unreasonable rules to prevent any student to appear for multiple companies' placement drives, irrespective of preferences that the student might have. And keep in mind that majority of the placements are from CS/IT/EC into software companies, and since not everyone does coding or testing, make your own path as I had to. The company I was placed in is a reputed company and it was the first placement drive for our batch students. Students who were selected by this company were not allowed to appear for another placement drive. This was a rule not set by the employer but by the college management. My company employer ended up not honoring the placement selected students. So, when my fellow students and I, who were placed in that particular company, completed our engineering, we had no job offer at hand.

No hostel facility provided by the institute. There are many private PGs nearby for the students to choose from.

GGITS has one of the best infrastructures among the top engineering colleges in Jabalpur. Not only the institute is well built in a few acres of land and has good quality classrooms and labs, but also the surroundings are kept clean and have well maintained garden areas. The sister college is separated by walking distance but is in the same vicinity. The canteen is good and provides snacks & food items, but of course one cannot depend on it for daily meals. Library is huge and Up-to-date. The huge land is utilized for sports. For any medical support there is a nearby hospital.

Technical fests and cultural events are held once in a semester. Also now the college offers selection in clubs that a student can join to pursue interests and hobbies. College provides fair opportunity to purse sports as well. However, since the attendance criteria is so high that students end up being bound to their desks mostly. The college gates are not kept open always, and students need lecturer’s permission to leave the campus with a valid reason. It does make students feel as they are not college but still in a primary school. Ragging is strictly banned on and off campus. The management group even does not let fresher mingle with seniors to prevent ragging. This in turn causes more friction and the fresher end up not receiving any guidance from senior students.
