Maulana Azad Medical College MBBS Review By Raghav Alawadhi

I scored 680 marks out of 720 in NEET exam and was given the choice of choosing between Maulana Azad Medical College and Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College Delhi. I chose Maulana Azad Medical College Delhi over Vardhman Mahavir Medical College Delhi, because of the rich history it boasts and has more experienced faculty. My own experience is somewhat of up and down; Ups being good batch mates and open to opportunities (All other colleges are connected thru metro). The cons being no workshops held in my own college (we are working to make it happen) and poor location.

MBBS or bachelors of medicine and bachelor's of surgery is a 5.5 yearlong course with requirements of rigorous study sessions, sleepless nights, never ending syllabus. The entry requirements are at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (in 12th class) and qualification of NEET exam (50th percentile). Main motive is to treat patients and giving back to the World, helping poor people (as this is a government hospital - investigations and treatment is free of cost).

Faculty is well versed and has a clear understanding of the concepts. They are the pioneers in their respective fields. Some of them are even pass outs of the college itself. But the college offers an all-inclusive ambience with faculty consisting of people from all the parts of the country. The style of teaching varies from one teacher to another. Some take a clinical approach whereas some teach the theory better.

There is no placement cell in the institute. But there are almost 100% chances of you getting placed once you pass out from the college as the college has a respectable image. You can enroll yourself in BLK-MAX, Apollo hospitals and they are more than happy to offer you, their services.

Hostels are there but they are given on the basis of your permanent address from the hostel. So that depends whether you are from the state or out of the state. Most students belonging to the out of state category get hostels in the first year itself. Hostels don't have any limitations of entry/exit time. They are pretty old and hence the conditions are poor. There is a closed badminton court, open basketball court, open volleyball court and a ground for cricket and football.

Campus having a long-life span has various blocks and the blocks have their life span. There are some blocks which are newly built (relatively) whereas some are more than 60 years old. A new building is being built of 22 floors which will be used as the hospital of the capital. New hostels are difficult to be made in a few years as the hospital building is expected to be completed by 2025.

Campus Life is exceptional. The college provides the best of people as your friends and the college itself has various hangout spots. Library plaza is one of them. It is open, has a swing and trees for decoration. Another spot is nescie which has two shops which are open for 24x7 hence you can go there and have a bite and talk with your friends. Annual fest is held names Synapse which acts as a stress buster to relieve you from the pressure of studies.
