HR College of Commerce and Economics B.Com Review By Aditya Pawar

HR is one of the best colleges in Mumbai for commerce. Not just the college but the location of the college is great as well. The college is surrounded by various colleges and the whole road is buzzing with student’s right throughout the day. I was raised in South Mumbai and like everyone in South Mumbai had few passion points. I researched well before I finally joined this college and landed to HR College for the junior college. The crowd is mostly rich in HR as maximum students were from South Mumbai. College has a Sindhi quota and that was evident with their numbers. Not just Mumbai but students from various states also came and joined our college. I never felt the pressure or difference as our group was a group of people from small towns or middle class people from Mumbai. One thing for sure is that neither the teachers differentiate nor the students. If your vibes and mindset matches that of Richi rich of the students then it’s pretty cool and soon you will be friends with them. My recommendations for those who want to join this college is be a little proactive and participate in club activities as this were I made maximum friends.

Academic wise the college is cool as the attendance are not compulsory and we spent our times hanging around. The college adjacent to us, KC was strict and many people from KC College switched to ours as I don’t feel like attending lectures should be mandatory at least in senior college. The college mindset is always positive when it comes to academics as the college has made it clear that you have joined the college by your wish and you want to study or not has to be your wish. The lectures were timely held and the college has a reputation in terms of education. The cut-off of HR is at par with the nearby colleges and also some of the other reputed colleges in Mumbai.

The faculty members of HR have a pedigree of their own. One of the best in the country for sure. The faculty never asked us to focus only on study but they always made us realize that as soon as somebody know that you are HR pass out they should feel something. HR students always standout among the crowd and I will thank our faculty members for that as they were the ones who infused multi-dimensional development in each one of us.

One can complain that college doesn’t provide many placement opportunities but it’s the other way round as well. The students sitting for the placement is also less as most of us opted for higher studies and some of the students were like we are done. To get placed by HR campus you definitely need luck to be on your side that day as 20% students do get placements with a CTC of Rs. 4-6 lakhs. For a graduate the numbers are certainly encouraging and plus the companies that comes and hire the students are the big 4 accounting firms and some banks as well. The college has a placement cell that tries day in and day out so that everyone gets placed. Having said that it will end of the day depends on your profile, knowledge, eventual goals, and some luck for sure.

HR College only has a boy’s hostel facility in the government hostel at C Road. There are many hostels nearby. One hostel that is near that is in ACC cements lane is a good option. The government hostel behind the Sydenham College is the one where the college has its quota of students who can apply for the hostel. Like that there are many such hostels but one should note that hostels in Mumbai are actually strict with the timings. The hostel gates are closed by 10pm and if you don’t come by then, you can stay out and come back the next morning. This is what most of the students used to do. Also, hostels are feasible as finding apartments can be tough as well as costly. I never got the opportunity to experience the hostel life and that is something that I may regret for the rest of my life.

The college is small and there’s no doubt about it. The facilities are surplus though as the college has a video conference room in our time as well. The college library was small but was sufficient enough and has some stupendous volumes of books, magazines, and journals. The campus size includes a 4 storied building which has some 20 classrooms. The admin department is on the ground floor. The college has a small parking area and mostly students park their vehicles outside the college. The college canteen is good but very small and was mostly crowded and one has to wait in long queue to have their turn. From what I have learned is that all the classes are now air-conditioned. I hope the case was the same during our time so that we would have attended some more lectures that what we actually did.

The campus life is surreal. There are various clubs to be a part of and one can have a great personality development just by spending a fair bit of time at the college. The college crowd is one of the best. I know Jai Hind College as the best crowd so we were second best but all very friendly. The nature club which regularly campaigns for grow more trees is still active and even I join them often and that is how I get the information about the college.
