College of Vocational Studies B.A Review By Aayushi Gupta

College of Vocational Studies or fondly known as CVS from University of Delhi is the college from where I Graduated. I did, BA in Office Management and Secretarial Practices which is a special course that only CVS along with a few other Colleges under DU offers. I chose to attend CVS was because of what all I have heard about the college and how amazing the campus life there is. College has been graded 'A' by NAAC. Which appears to be Very Good. College being one from DU was enough for me and also a not so hectic course, because during graduation I wanted to learn about life and have different experiences which CVS gave me bountifully. The amazing culture in college along with all the cultural and academic societies offers so much to each and every student and gives everyone an equal chance to show what they have and give so much confidence to face the world later, that made my college life beyond explaining. Got admission on merit basis as all other DU colleges, during the admissions there were many student union students present to guide us step by step and also we had a hassle free admission.

The course I joined was BA in Office Management and Secretarial Practices and to be honest while selecting the course I wasn't thinking about the future, I was just happy that I am going to be DU student and that too in CVS, so course became secondary for me because my ultimate goal was to study media and I didn't score so good to be getting media in DU. Merit is the eligibility criteria in CVS. But after joining the course we actually got to know how important this course and some of the subjects like shorthand or stenography is. I never really paid attention to this subject as it required time and so much practice and I wasn't committed enough, stenography is excellent if you want to ever apply for a Govt. job. Many people in my class who actually studies stenography are not preparing for Govt jobs, and since there are very less stenographers today, the demand has increased specially in Govt sector. So yes, if your aim is ever to join Govt jobs, do try and learn stenography.

We had 4 subjects every semester and every semester had different teachers for almost all the subjects, except for our accounts professor, he used to teach us business law as well. The faculty at CVS is well taught and they know what they teach, there are so many young professors as well so they are well equipped and well learnt about the recent trends and studies of their specialised subjects. They sure taught us extremely well that some of the things I still remember. CVS has many departments and every department had so many professors, the specific one, our Vocational Courses has 7 courses in total and some courses has some similar subjects, so for those subjects some professors take 2 to 3 sections.

To be honest, I didn't sit in placements because I had to go for further studies and many students from my batch didn't sit for placements as they wanted to study higher. But the placement cell is very good of my college and they work tirelessly to provide best possible companies in the campus and to provide with the job. Many students of the college got placements in companies like EY with a package of approx Rs. 5-6 lakhs per annum which was fine being just graduates.

CVS doesn't have hostel of its own, but there are so many PG's available in the area.

Our college has two blocks, one is old other is new, the old block or building has all the offices, canteen, amphitheater, seminar hall, principal office, staff rooms, computer labs, one story library, stores, classes well equipped with projectors, girls common room (GCR) which has AC-bed-sofa-mirror-washroom-microwave and some emergency facility for all the girls which is taken care by an GCR in charge, boys common room (BCR) which had sofas, chairs, carom board, chess etc. administration office, printing/photocopy stall. The new building has new conference hall, new classes with projectors, staff rooms, washrooms, water coolers. The ground that is there in CVS is fairly huge with a dedicated football court, basketball court and a cricket ground. There is one more building that's there, which is called as Cultural Building, this building is dedicated to the cultural societies of our college, where they can practice and one room is dedicated to all the societies to keep their props or all the essentials and stuff. Arts, drama, dance, music, fashion, all the society people will be found here with all their essentials.

Campus life as CVS is just amazing, it has so much to offer. I myself wasn't a confident person but CVS made me, it gave me so much by the end of my graduation that I am forever indebted. The societies are not there just for the name of it, they actually make and effort, they work and bring changes in your life. The societies at CVS take parts in all the fests, and they have won so many awards yet and I am sure, they will continue to do so. Every small event is a festival at CVS, you will never have a dull day. You are surrounded by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College just next to CVS, so many eateries outside the college and at a walk of 5 minutes there is a huge market with eateries, stationaries and what not. SRI RAM is one of the most famous eateries there. Another amazing wonder of Delhi that is like 5-7 mins away from CVS is Select City Walk Mall, one of the most famous malls in Delhi, so if you love malls, this is the place for you. PVR Saket is 10 mins away from CVS and there is a whole market surrounding it. When in CVS you can never get bored and you will not need to go to places as CVS has so much around it to always amuse you.
