Vignan's Institute of Information Technology B.Tech Review By Shaik Taj Amanatulla

Among almost all the colleges in Vizag, I found this college with the highest placement percentages for B.Tech students. With the highest package being ₹33 LPA and having almost 100% placements. I chose this particular institute for posting my B.Tech. After completing my B.Tech, I can now confirm that, although the placement statistics provided are not totally correct, but the placement opportunities are a lot better as compared to other colleges, provided, you belong to a computer science related branch. That is, majority of the job opportunities are software jobs, implying it is easier for the computer science related branches to get placed.

In the first year almost all the branches will be having the same subjects, that is, even a CSE student learns Engineering Drawing, and a mechanical student learns C programming in the 1st year. In the 2nd year, half the subjects will be core subjects (subjects specific to that branch), and some will be general subjects. In the 3rd and 4th year, majority of the subjects will be core subjects. Student should have passed both 10th bad intermediate with good grades and have a good rank in AP-EAMCET (entrance exam). If you're from general category, you'll need to get a rank almost less than 15K if you want a seat through Convenor Quota. If you belong to a backward caste, then you'll have a greater chance of getting a seat in computer science related branches. If not, you do have an option to buy a seat in Management Quota, but that costs in lakhs. My motive behind choosing IT was, it had good placement opportunities since it is a computer science related branch (as I already mentioned), and short from that I had already learnt Python (programming language) in my intermediate which made me feel more interested in this branch.

Most of the faculty in this institute are highly qualified and have a good grip in their subjects. But, according to my personal experience: In the 1st year, the faculty we got was top notch and their way of teaching was really effective and best. But in the 2nd and 3rd years, we faced problems with the teachers as we couldn't understand and grasp the subjects they were teaching. Reason being the teachers who were allocated a new subject for the first time were unable to teach students. That was a little disappointing for us. In the 4th year, we got somewhat better faculty and mainly we learned to study on our own and not depend on the faculty. Faculty backgrounds: All the faculty are highly educated with having minimum B.Tech and M.Tech degrees achieved. All the teachers adopt one of these two teaching methods: 1. Blackboard and chalk: It was more effective, although it was time consuming. 2. PowerPoint presentation: All the classrooms are equipped with a projector and a screen. So many teachers teach thorough visual learning. Even this method was quite effective.

Yes, we do have a Placement Cell in our institute. It is called the "Training and placements Department". Yes, it does help students to a great extent to acquire a job in the industry. The placements for students start in between the 6th semester to 7th semester. And just before that, the placement cell provides CRT (Campus Recruitment Training) to all the students which make us job ready. The training consists of 4 phases having 2 for technical and 2 for non-technical training. We have a WhatsApp group created only for placement updates. After companies start recruitment, we receive job notifications and application/registration forms in that group.

Yes, we do have residential facilities in our institute. The hostels are separate for boys and girls. Since it is near to the institute, we don't need to travel much distance to go to the institute. We've got Wi-Fi facility for the hostel students and rest everything is fine. But, frankly speaking, the college hostels charge very huge amount of money for the services provided. And choosing a PG or a general hostel (not the institute's hostel) would be best.

The infrastructure of the college is too good, and majority of the people would love it. Though this institute looks smaller as compared to colleges like gitam, but this institute has almost everything you need. There are majorly two blocks: 1. Dharithri block: All the 1st year classes, and the IT department belong here. 2. Main block: Remaining all the branches (from 2nd year), office, library, etc. belong in this block. Library: We have a library named "Vigna Dhara"in the 2nd floor of main block. It has thousands of books segregated based on branches and an "index of books" pasted in each row. Canteen: We have 2 canteens: 1. Annapurna: morning breakfast, afternoon lunch and evening snacks are available here. Many students have their meals in the college canteen. You can order cakes/pastries too. 2. Food byte: It has meals like chicken biryani, manchuriyan, egg rolls, etc. Playground: 1. We have one big playground near Dharithri block for Cricket and football. 2. The 2nd playground near main block for sports like volleyball, throwback, basketball etc.

Frankly it is a bit frustrating and stressful as you need to give to many exams like Weekly Tests conducted every week which you can't take lightly as those marks are being added at last in the internals. Every class gets 1 period of sports in a week to play. Apart from that, after the college hours, we can play sports of our choice daily in the campus ground. There are many clubs in the institute to promote many student activities. Some clubs are cultural club, movies club, sports club, etc. Many competitions are being conducted in both non-technical (like script writing, robo-car race, etc.) and many technical Hackathons and Ideations are being conducted, with the winners awarded with prize money. Tech fests see conducted every twice a year having Hackathons and Ideations (as mentioned above). Here comes the exciting part...! Conducted once a year and celebrated grandly where many events, food stalls, dance, singing competitions are conducted where the other engineering college students are also invited to be a part of this event. You can show your college ID card and the watchman will then let you enter the event.
