Amrita School of Engineering B.Tech Review By Rinson Thomas

I am student of Amrita School of Engineering and am doing my third year now. I am a native of Bangalore itself, so getting into this college was always one of my top goals. You can get into this college on merit basis through your rank on exams like JEE and PUEE. We have many foreigners who come from all around the world like America and Africa. One of the best colleges in Bangalore every student aspiring to become an engineer must look for. They usually give SAT scores for admission. So many people seek out and come to this college due to its name, and it even has a ranking among the top 800 universities around the whole world! Also, one nice thing about it is that it is located near the city itself, so it's located near a lot of the interesting places like Bangalore Central and the Jayanagar shopping complex.

I am a third-year student in the computer science and engineering program. I chose this course because I got really interested in coding in my PU days, and this course gets you involved into a lot of the programming languages. The minimum requirements that you have to have to be admitted here are like the general stuff required in most engineering colleges like passing 12th exam and having core subjects that include physics and chemistry and mathematics. You need to have at least 60% score in the combination of these three subjects’ marks. Something that really surprised me about this college is the number of international staffs. We got to be taught by guest professors from all around the world from first year itself, however more of the international professors come in your third year and final year. I felt that this really is making a difference in how I’m learning, because these professors make us think differently and apply our knowledge as opposed to just simply mugging up stuff before an exam and then forgetting about it.

The faculty in this college is good, but they are very strict. You have to always make sure to be on good terms with the teachers because if you are, they will respond well to you too. They will help you with notes and any doubts you have and even personally refer things and get back to you. Many of the teachers have PhDs, and 90% have their masters’ degrees.

When you ever feel the stress and tension of college, just repeat one word in your mind: placements. Amrita has really good placements, and the best thing is it places almost all of its students. The highest package is about Rs. 33 lakhs per year, and the average package ranges around Rs. 7 lakhs. This is a really good starting package for fresher, and the best point is that most of the placements are in really good companies that allow for a lot of growth. They bring in companies like Microsoft and Infosys.

This college provides a total of six hostels. There are different hostels for boys and girls, and both of them come with housekeeping and a cafeteria. There is also security that stays at the hostels. Also, there are two wardens that stay in each of the hostels. I travel to college from home itself, so I don’t have much experience with the hostels. However, many of my friends from different places throughout India have stayed in the hostels, and they say that they are good. Also, the hostels provide variety of dishes to cater to the national and international variety of students including masala dosa, pasta, and parathas.

This college has an A grade rank from NAAC, so that can speak for its infrastructure as well. There are multiple canteens spread across the campus so you can find just about any type of snack that you are craving during any time of the day. There are football fields, a computer browsing centre, and a library also. The campus is spread over several kilometers, and there is lot of open space to take walks and enjoy the nature.

One reason that I am really happy with the choice of my college is due to the research opportunities. We have more than 3000 publications in highly reputed journals and also we get to collaborate with researchers around India and around the world. Apart from research, this college also gives a lot of extracurricular activities like singing and drama club. I was personally involved in KALA which is the art club here. Amongst the best colleges with 100% placement. We got to attend competitions in different states like Andhra and Kerala during intercollegiate fests. Overall, I’m happy that I chose this college to attend, and if you choose to attend here, you will know that when you tell someone you attended Amrita University, they most likely will know it because it has such a great name around India and the world.
