B.Tech in Data Science is a four year or 8 semesters full time undergraduate course for Science students. Data Science is a study of algorithms and methodologies used in computer science and statistical studies to analyse the data. In simple language, it is a process of storing, analysing and interpreting the data to perform data-driven decision making actions. The role of data scientists is to extract meaningful information from the raw and unprocessed data. The data is present in a very large amount.
B.Tech in Data Science course is newly introduced and has gained popularity over a very small period of time. However, the hard fact is that only a few colleges have started offering this course.
At some colleges, this course is known as B.Tech in Data Science while at others, it's called B.Tech in Data Science & Analytics, B.Tech in Data Science and Engineering. However, the syllabus and outcomes are the same for all.
Candidates who have passed their 12th standard with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as their mandatory subjects are eligible to apply for this course.
However, there are some colleges having their own standard admission process and eligibility criteria. Some conduct their own entrance test and few select candidates on the basis of merit list.
In some reputed and renowned colleges/institutions, the candidate is required to have at least 50% in mathematics and 70% aggregate in Physics, chemistry and mathematics.
In addition, some colleges require computer science as a mandatory subject in class 12th.

Computer Science and Data Science are connected to each other. However, according to Experts, B.Tech in Computer Science is a parent specialisation of Data Science. According to them, Data Science has evolved from Computer Science due to the increasing demand of data mining and warehousing.
The course curriculum is similar as both consist of nearly 50-60% of syllabus same.
The contents of Data Science have always been in the curriculum of Computer Science. With the emergence of digitalisation, the need for a separate course on Data Science evolved.
However, it is also said that “a Computer Science engineer can become a Data Scientist, but the opposite of it has low possibilities”.
