B.Tech in (AI & ML)

B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is a full time 4 years or 8 semesters undergraduate course for students with science background. Earlier, computer science was the only branch that was offered to engineering students in the field of computer and technology. But, with the advancement of digitalisation and technology development, more sub-branches have been introduced which have become individual specialisation/streams in the field of engineering.

 “Computer science is a core branch and a parent specialisation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”.

But what exactly is AI and ML?

We all experience AI and ML in our daily life routine but most of us are unaware of it.

Artificial Intelligence

The word Artificial Intelligence is made up from two words - “Artificial” and “Intelligence”. It means thinking capability just like humans. In common words, it means manufacturing and coding the machines that can perform human tasks with the human-like thinking power.

In other words, we can say that Artificial Intelligence is the technology that can match human intelligence to reduce human efforts. AI creates intelligent systems to solve complex tasks.

An example for Artificial Intelligence is Voice assistant. With the advancement of technology, we can now listen to our favorite song without even touching the device. Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant are some of the best examples of AI applications. Google maps is another best example of the same.

Machine Learning

Machine learning and Deep learning are both related to Artificial intelligence. ML is basically predicting and analysing the pattern based on the previous data without any external programming or coding.

A good example for machine learning is whenever you purchase from an e-commerce website, it keeps on suggesting you the products based on your recent purchases. Same way, based on your past interests, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney hotstar recommends you similar web series or videos.

ADMISSION PROCESS

Based on Entrance Test

• JEE Exam
  • JEE EXAM is conducted to allow admissions in  IITs, NITs, IIITs and a few other government funded colleges.  The JEE exam is required to be qualified at all stages.

JEE EXAM — JEE MAINS → JEE ADVANCED → JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) Counselling → Seat Allotment

• • However, apart from IITs or NITs, few colleges/universities allow students to apply for direct admission based on the JEE Score.
• Universities like Indraprastha University, Delhi Technical University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) and other central universities admit students on the basis of both - National level entrance tests and their own entrance tests (cut-off varies college to college).
• Majority of institutions/universities conduct their own entrance exam through which they select the desired candidates.
• Some colleges conduct their own Admission Test followed by a personal interview round.
• There are some colleges who allow admission through merit lists. Therefore, students with percentages above 75%  in X and XII may apply directly at some private colleges. Moreover, few colleges do not have any particular admission process. Their admissions are based on First-cum-first-served.
• There is special reservation for SC/ST/OBC candidates. Few seats are reserved for these students. Also, there is age and percentage relaxation given to these candidates.

The content that a student study while pursuing B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning are:

The syllabus is vast and deep at the same time. However, few colleges offer electives to choose in their 3rd and 4th year of the course which helps them to focus on the in-depth knowledge of the subjects.

The course is designed in such a way that students have to be analytically and practically skilled. They need the decision making and problem solving skills to be the right candidate to pursue this course. Students should choose this specialisation only when they are interested in it with proper knowledge. It shouldn’t be a choice of  replacement for computer science engineering.

There are ample opportunities that a candidate can grab after completing his/her B.Tech in AI & ML. The job is demanding and is a huge trend nowadays. Top companies are hiring more candidates from the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science background.
