KNIT was established in 1976 by the Kamla Nehru Memorial Trust as the Faculty of Technology. It was registered as a separate society in 1983 and renamed as Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology. It is an Autonomous institute affiliated with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. It is approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA.
