The physical structures at GEC Surat, unlike those at IIT Mumbai, occupy a somewhat larger area but are comparatively older. Nonetheless, the functionality of the structures at GEC Surat is not an issue of concern because most of the structures are well-maintained. For the academics of the students, there are well designed classrooms, large laboratories and a library which fulfills the entire requirement. Whereas some buildings exhibit signs of aging, they are quite sturdy, and provide the necessary service without any complaints.

Therefore, life in GEC Surat is fully fledged with academics as well as co-curricular activities. The students participate in a variety of societies, technical associations, and cultural activities and shows that makes them to feel at home and develop talents within them. This college has periodic fests, workshops, competitions, all of which help in presenting the extracurricular activities of the students. Nevertheless, much stress is put on academics.
