Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music, formerly known as ‘The Music Academy’ was founded in the year 1939. It is one of the most renowned colleges in the cultural field in South India. From the date of its inception, the college has aimed to preserve the essence of traditional Carnatic music and nurture musical talents through proper education in performing arts.
The college is affiliated with Kerala University. It grants admission to an UG program in Performing Arts of 3 years duration. Other than this, the college also offers an MPA program. Specialisations available under these programs are Vocal Music, Veena, Violin, Mridangam, and Dance.

Admission Process
The college allows admission to its UG and PG programs based on marks scored in the previous qualifying exam and performance in the aptitude test. The admission process of the college is regulated through offline mode. The detailed admission procedure for the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs are provided below:
Swathi Thirunal College of Music is located in the capital city of Kerala i.e., Thiruvananthapuram. The campus covers nearly 5.6 acres of beautiful green land. It is also one of the simple attractions of Trivandrum city. Every year, over 250 students enrol themselves in the college to learn music and become a part of this 80 year long tradition.
The infrastructure of the college comprises a well-maintained auditorium with a seating capacity of 300 people, a library with more than 9000 literature books, a recording studio well-equipped with all latest hardware and software technologies, and a girls hostel with 75-80 occupants and 3 cooks as well.
Apart from all the academic facilities, the college also provides multiple opportunities to the students to participate in various events including the All India radio competitions. Students also take part in youth festivals organised by the University. Besides this, every year, the college organises academic tours where students are taken to different places of musical significance and get exposed to the various musical traditions which broaden their musical perspective.
