Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was established by the Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras and Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai in 1971. It was established with a goal to reduce poverty through research, extension programs, and agricultural education in rural areas. TNAU is a State University recognised by ICAR.

TNAU has a Placement Cell which acts as an intermediary between the industries and the students. The Cell enhances the employability skills of the individuals catering to the requirements of the industries through career development activities. It guides, assists, and supports the students to select their career path. It conducts mock interviews and group sessions, and organises workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. It also organises campus interviews and job fairs for the students.
