Mahendra Arts and Science College started its academic year in 1999 with the aim to give higher education to rural students in Namakkal. It is an autonomous private institute, running under the Mahendra Educational Trust. It is NAAC accredited with an ‘A’ grade and got 90th rank in NIRF rankings. The physics, chemistry, and biotechnology department are also recognized by Anna University. These departments got recognition in the research area. The college aims at scoring a 100% success rate in university exams by maintaining high standards.
There are a large number of courses offered at the university at UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels. It offers BA and MA in Tamil and English. It also has B.Sc and M.Sc in PCM along with a master's in analytical chemistry. The college provides MPhil and Ph.D. in Tamil, Chemistry, and Commerce. Those with 100% attendance throughout each semester or academic year are also recognised and awarded prizes. Students who achieve a score of 100 in any theory subject are given prizes. Students who are placed in the top 5 ranks at their universities receive special awards from the management.

The College has an intensive placement and training cell. Every student enrolled in the college takes part in career-related workshops created to equip them with the needed skills. Writing a resume, facing interviews, and interacting with colleagues at work, all need soft skills. These skills help students in the rigorous selection process during placement interviews. The training cell helps get leadership, informative, and language skills. Conducting seminars also increases technology trend skills. All enrolled students are given an equal chance by the college’s cell to:
● Take part in campus interviews held by renowned industries from important cities across the nation.
● In order for students to succeed in aptitude tests, assessments, discussions, and personal interviews are conducted.
Successful placements of students at reputable companies include Sutherland, Accenture, Infosys, and TCS. The data of 2020-21 shows that Nokia, Siemens, MMC Info Tech, and Eximio Services gave job offers to around 70 students. The total number of students placed during this academic year was more than 200. The college has been able to get job offers from Tech Mahindra, EDS, ICICI Bank, and HCL.
Mahendra Arts and Science College has an amazing infrastructure that includes an art block along with a biotechnology block. The college has high-tech laboratories which help students in research-related areas. The campus promotes green initiatives and for that, it restricted the use of vehicles on campus instead they use bicycles. The college has planted many trees to keep the air clean. The college also has a very friendly environment for differently abled students. Around 75 bus services are available to transport staff and students to the campus. The college has an eco club, science club, and photography club. Students are also enrolled in the NSS activities and take part in social work.
Library: The College has a central library that has a huge collection of standard books in the arts and science stream. The library has CDs/DVDs of different branches, e-books, periodicals, and many other journals. All the students and staff members can use the facilities of the library. The library also has a book bank and internet facility available inside the building.
Hostels: There are two hostels, one for male and one for female students. The hostels have all the required amenities needed by the students. It has a mess where students sit and take their meals together. The mess management ensures that everyone is getting quality and healthy meals on time. In case a hosteller wants to leave the room in the middle, their parent's/guardian's written permission is required.
Committees: The college management is very sensitive to the needs of students. It has a grievance cell, a minority cell, SC/ST committee, and an anti-ragging committee. The management is really keen on solving the problems faced by the students if any.
