Students are admitted to the college based on the rules and regulations laid by Punjab University Chandigarh and the Government of Punjab. Admissions to all the programs in the college except M.Sc (Botany) are based on the academic performance of the candidates in the qualifying exam. To enroll for M.Sc (Botany) program, students must qualify in the PU-CET (PG) Entrance Test conducted by Punjab University. Physically challenged students with more than 40% disability are given 5% relaxation in the minimum eligibility criteria in all the courses.

The College has a Career Guidance and Placement Cell which works to create awareness among the students about the potential job opportunities. It makes its students conscious about the different kinds of occupations, jobs, competitive examinations and self employment resources. A school was etsablished in the college campus with an aim to provide students the necessary training and knowledge to improve their soft skills and communication skills to get the job that suits their profile.
The present campus of the college was developed in 1953. It is spread across 45 acres of land with its built-up area constituting 10 acres. The management updates the infrastructure of the campus timely to make it suitable for modern day education. There are 30 classrooms, 4 computer labs, and 22 laboratories equipped with modern equipment. The new infrastructures developed with this money include smart classrooms, toilet blocks, ramps for disabled students, solar panels, seminar room, and more.
