The course structure here is more ethnographic. Many have this notion about social science disciplines that how it is all about theories and there is no as such real life applications. But here the course focuses on the contemporary issues and ideas as well as looking into various empirical fieldworks. One of the best parts of the course is that anyone can join it. My batchmates have come from various other backgrounds like that of Physics and Chemical Engineering as well. Entry is simply through CUET- PG. If you have completed your undergraduate degree from Delhi University then that would be an added advantage. There are six compulsory subjects in the first year and one optional subject. The compulsory subjects are divided into two parts and two individual professors will teach each part. DSE was flexible with lectures as attending the lectures at DSE is not essential. I always thought that I can study from my room and library and ace the exams. After the mid-term itself, I realized I was wrong. Midterm exams are held in September and the term starts in June. Thus, you hardly have any time to prepare for the terms. 40% weightage is carried by mid-term exams so don’t you dare missing or skipping them. 40% external marking and that is evaluated by the professors so always maintain good relation with them. I have no idea where to begin as academics were seriously tough. I had to recall the days when I could relax because the chances of that are bleak. One thing about DSE is that drop out ratio at DSE after the 1st year is quite high and that’s purely because of the rigorous study that one has to do here. All the colleges that offer BA should have a little extra in their curriculum as after such a mild education in undergrad taking pressure of such tough studies is impossible.
