Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce [SCAC], Pune was established in the year 1983 as a Private (Autonomous) Educational Institution. SCAC Pune is accredited by NAAC, and is affiliated with SPPU, Pune. Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce offers admission in the field of Humanities and Commerce at UG/ PG level with scholarship benefits to deserving students. Dr. Hrishikesh Soman is the Principal.
Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce is where the journey of Symbiosis began. Dr. S. B. Majumdar who is the founder of Symbiosis College was a professor at Fergusson College in Pune. After an incident where he saw foreign students are being bullied in India, he decided to build an institute where students from all over the world can come under one roof and study with peace and harmony. Students from 70 countries have been a part of Symbiosis thus far and the number is on rise with passing year. The current principal of the college Dr. Hrishikesh Soman.
Symbiosis College affiliated to Pune University and is located in Senapati Bapat Road Pune which is close to Shivaji Nagar Railway Station and Deccan Bus Stand. Pune Railway station is also just 6 kms from the college. The college is fairly small as the entire campus is built in 2 acres of land. The college has an underground parking that can accommodate around 50 four wheelers and 200 two wheelers. The college offers courses in Commerce and Arts stream and this was the campus where Law College, Design School, and SIBM used to be operated once.
Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce admissions are based on HSC results. The cut-off for B.Com is around 90% for the outsiders while students of Maharashtra get eligible for the course with around 78%. The college also has a junior college and those who do their 12th from Symbiosis Junior College get direct admission in Symbiosis College. Likewise for B.A. the cut-off is around 80% for the outsiders and nearly 70% for the students from Maharashtra. Students applying fresh for Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce have to fill centralized admissions form. One can fill in their choices and if their percentage are in line with Symbiosis cut-off list, they get admissions.
Symbiosis College application form for certification courses and PG courses is available online on their website. There’s a huge sign board at the college that strictly says that no caption fee or donation is charged for any of the courses in Symbiosis. Thus, admissions are purely based on merit as there’s no other way of sneaking in Symbiosis College Pune. The quota for the outsiders is 15% and the rest is reserved for the students from Maharashtra. Symbiosis College courses include B.A., B.Com, M.A., and M. Com. Apart from that the college also offers many certification and specialization courses.
Symbiosis College scholarship are many as they run many scholarship programs as all the government schemes and benefits are applicable for the students studying in Symbiosis. Students can apply for scholarships through MahaDBT portal and apply for the scholarship. Scholarships for meritorious students of 12th who scores above 80 percent gets eligible for scholarship of 25%. However, there’s a guideline that parents income must be less than Six Lakh yearly.
Minority Scholarship is also provided to the student and students belonging to Jews, Jain, Bouddha, Christian, Parsi, Sikh, or Muslim community are eligible for minority scholarship. However, the cap for parent income for providing for this scholarship must be less than two lakhs. There are scholarships awarded to students belonging to reserved category. Scholarships are also provided to students whose parents have served in the army or the students who have represented at state, national or international level in any sport. The college also sponsors the sportspersons and take care of their coaching and other stuffs.

Symbiosis College placement cell is one of the lynchpins of the college. The cell provides many internship and job opportunities to all the interested UG and PG Students. A stringent training is provided to students during training. The training makes the students resume strong by preparing the students personal interviews and mock group discussions. Apart from career guidance, students are also assisted for competitive exams as maximum students of the college end up doing MBA from top colleges of India. From the 1st year, students are free to join internship as the college help them find an internship in which they have their area of interest.
The big 4s, i.e., EY, KPMG, PwC, and Deloitte have made tie-ups with the college and have hired many a student from the college in last few years. In 2021-22 itself, the placement cell was managed to place over 150 students. The average salary provided to the college students is Rs. 4.98 LPA and Rs. 6.2 LPA respectively for UG & PG students. Apart from the big 4s, companies like Honeywell, Federal Bank, Wipro, Capgemini, Deutsche Bank, and Teach for India have joined hands with college for providing placements to the Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce students.
The college is small but is no short of facilities. There are two canteens inside the campus as the Symbi Court is always full from morning to evening. The other canteen is for the hostel students as their food is served there. Outside the college next to the old SIBM building is an NCC canteen. There is an NRI hostel in the campus adjacent to the main campus and it is reserved only for the NRI students.
The hostel is a 10-floor building with 12 rooms on each floor. Students from African, Asian, and European nations stay there. The hostel gates close at 10 pm and students are not allowed to escape the hostels beyond the curfew time. There is a volleyball court inside the campus and the old SIBM building has now been converted into an auditorium. The college has preserved the tree since its inception which is right next to the Commerce Academic Block. The old law school building is now dedicated entirely to the Arts stream. There is a gym inside the campus and students are free to use it.
